I have two cameras in calving shed with the signal beamed into the house attic about 100metres away, wire comes down from the attic into dvr which is connected to a tp link router. Theres is no power in either tplink and dvr(IQ cctv) which I think are goosed. I use a vodafone toggle for internet in the house separately. Can anyone recommend a dvr and router so I can view the cameras on my phone. Is the dvr essential if I just want it on my phone

If you give a little more information, we'd probably be able to help you better.

Maybe model numbers of any of the devices you can see and think may or may not be goosed.

How is it beamed? Is it WiFi or a video sender?

Think it's a video sender into the attic, the dvr is iqcctv 4 channel h264 digital video recorder connected to a 3g3 75g wireless n router

So cameras connect to BNC connectors on the the back of the DVR. (Silver connectors that that tighten with a half turn)

If this is the case then no you cannot use them without a DVR. (well you could possibly connect one of them to an AV socket on a TV with appropriate adaptor, but no internet connection)

Strange that both the router and DVR are dead, I assume you have checked the sockets? Most modern DVR's support multiple video formats and should be backwards compatible even if your cameras are an older SD type.

So your current setup has a wireless video link between the camera's and the DVR too? Has the receiver unit/s got power?

The DVR and, router should get you back up and running but you probably won't no the state of the other equipment until you at least get a working DVR.

Check your camera's to see if the video format is written on them.
If you are unsure what video format then make sure your new DVR supports multiple types. TVI,CVI,AHD and CVBS would be the usual formats.

Edit: of course all of this assumes you were happy with your video quality on your existing cameras?

Assuming, the video sender and cameras are still working then the Hikvision DVR I got recently would suit you fine. It has easy remote access for viewing on your phone.

For your router, is there a particular reason why you want a separate 4G router instead of just using your current working internet connection?

Is it USB only? If so you may be better of getting the router as well so.

Not Particularly, I've mostly used Huawei or TP Link 4G routers. If your reception is decent its probably hard to pick one from the other. IF you reception is poor choose one with an option for an external aerial.

Came across these type cameras today. Aside from the battery would it be possible to tell if it would have as strong as a reception as a tp speedport 4g router?

I have one on route. Not that one that can pan and tilt. Went with the fixed one.

don't know about the cam etc but just be warned about buying from the uk , there could be 40% +/- added on to the price , I was looking on ebay at a few bits , some sellers warn you about the duty, others collect it at sale point but a good few are leaving buyers in the dark,

My understanding is that we are now paying Irish vat, but not UK vat. No vat at all if under 22gbp.

If you go onto amazon and toggle between an Irish and UK address there is only a euro or two in difference between the two.

Wouldn't be knowledgeable about any duties that may be due.

Ebay is a completely different kettle of fish though and up to seller in some cases.

My 48 SIM card arrived today. 8 quid a month and camera can be moved easily between sheds is a big bonus.

Given we have a cow outside that ain’t far away from calving so I will likely have to tip out and check her in an hour, then set my alarm for 3 or so and tip out and check her again....I am very excited! Hopefully it’s just plug and play and no issues.

I'm not too knowledgeable on the regulations but just wanted to let people know. Anyhow back to the business on hand.

I was using three and tried to switch to a 48 sim but couldn't get it to stay going. Let me know if it works for you. Switched back to three and it worked no problem.

When first installing be aware that there is a sim pin on them and that it needs to be unlocked or else it won't connect to internet.

hi lads, i'm upgrading the calving camera at home here aswell, I have a cat 5 cable running from the house to the shed about 90mtr. Nano stations would have been handier in hindsight but the cable is in place now so I think ill work with it.

Would I be right in saying I need to put a switch between my router in the house and the camera in order to power the camera via POE? Or what would I need to put in the shed to get internet and power to 2 cameras?

Also could anybody recommend a good value ptz camera that will do the job, have been looking on irish sites over the last couple of days and the cheapest seem to be about 300 quid.

any advice greatly appreciated because im a bit out of my comfort zone with these things?

The Network cable is a better job and always recommended over wireless, so its in now go with it.

Most camera's have a multiple options in terms of powering.

A POE switch is one option, it would need to be installed on the shed end of the cable if you have more than one camera. Make sure the camera supports the POE standard of the POE Switch and that the output per port is enough to drive the camera particularly for PTZ (also overall power output will support the number of cameras, often there is a max Wattage per Port but won't support all ports at that wattage at the same time).

POE injectors are also an option, sometimes provided with the camera.

Most cameras will also support a DC adaptor plugged in near the camera.

As for Brand for your PTZ, I don't use one myself yet, but I'd definitely go for a Hikvision, based on how impressed I am my recent DVR upgrade.

Thanks for the reply, im going to try finalise what I need this evening and get it ordered..would any of the dome cameras have a.zoom function or are they all fixed? Seen loads of hikvision versions cheap enough..the ptz would be better if possible.
I need to put the connections on the cable,do I need any specialist crimper to put it together?

still have the money on the balance, its not a broadband plan, its a normal prepay phone sim, i think with them you automatically get all you can eat data when topping up
