CNN had reporting that while he was refusing to mobilise the security response he was calling senators inside trying to lean on them to use the rioting to derai the vote, I wonder will we ever get to see the bottom in the question "how much lower can he go?"

Yeah I believe you need to sign up ahead of time and I had signed up through the office of my local congressman Jim Himes whose intern gave us the tour. I also did the White House tour during Clinton’s time and a second time in 2011 when I was a parent chaperone on my son’s school visit there. Much more security he second time round there.

I know the defence of the trump crowd has been that they didn’t hurt anyone, which isn’t true because their actions directly or indirectly caused five people to die and many more were injured. I think it was this thread or the election thread where there was the picture of the guy with the cable ties(which apparently are used by police as handcuffs) and the “Murder the media” writing is seen on a video on an outside door with cable ties around the door handle. I mean if you weren’t trying to hurt anyone why would you be trying to cable tie doors shut ?

That guy was found and arrested. He actually approached police to say his car was stuck inside their perimeter and when questioned about the car, they realised it was the one they'd found with the molotov cocktails in it. When asked, he said he had a gun in his front right trouser pocket. They then found another one in his other pocket. Chap is 70 years of age. Bizarre and stupid doesn't cover it. But, in light of another conversation on this thread, it screams (to me anyway) of white privilege. No black man would ever approach cops about a car full of bombs and guns and with two guns on their person. Not unless they had a death wish.

There's video of them actually opening doors on one side of the building and letting a mob (including cable ties guy - who's since been identified as a man from TN) into the building as the police stand by and one saying "I may not agree with it, but I can respect it" clearly in the video. The entrance led up a short flight of stairs straight into the rotunda.

I'd only just heard of that incident. Along with the lady who was trampled to death while carrying a "Don't tread on me" flag. There's a certain Darwinian feel to all of this. Podium guy was arrested as noted above. Doesn't look so cheery in orange.

Its a commentary of the value of life that the Capitol flags were half-masted in honour of slain CPD Officer Brian Sicknick but the flag at the White House remained at full mast despite it being the residence of the man who claims to be pro law and order. If Trump tries to get involved with the funeral, he should be told to forget it, that the family do not want him within sniffing distance.

I hope that, in respect of Officer Sicknick and his family, that the GOP members who continue to stand by Trump stay away from his funeral and don't continue to dishonour Brian Sicknick with the attitude espoused by Trump in his video message that people should just move on and forget his involvement with and preparation of the insurgent mob.

GOP members who disdain the idea of holding Trump responsible have Brian's blood on their hands. They have to stop this "we must get together as a nation" B/S and make Trump accept responsibility for the murder of Brian Sicknick.

Having seen some of the videos showing the clear violence used by Trump's private army against the police, I was surprised with the amount of restraint the police gave to those insurgents in response. No use of batons against them while they were visibly using extreme violence against the police in the Capitol.

I'm surprised they don't see the advantage of plausible deniability they'd get if Trump was impeached and found guilty of the charge/s laid against him in the Congress as a whole [nothing to do with us]. He'll not be able to run for election again and this would totally split Trump from them, probably scuttle his involvement in any election schemes his son/s come up with as GOP candidates.

Think about it and the effect on Trump. Not much really, just a waiting game until the 20th January, with talk about impeachment.

Was an outrageous thing, totally unreal. But it seems to be glossed over in the hope that 20/1 will happen and Trump will be silenced. Somehow I doubt that.

I don't think it's being glossed over at all. I think Monday will reveal a lot, as has been widely reported in the media.

It cannot be left go. Yes the Senate vote on impeachment will be done by the next session after the inauguration.
It's important to remember lives were lost and Trump wouldn't agree to mobilising against the mob. Pence in consultation with McConnell and Pelosi did that. In a way Pence did a coup.
