News on Radio Kerry this morning about removal of objections to CPOs on the realignment of the Kilderry bends just outside Milltown on the N70.

Tis an old enough thread given the shifting development plans that appear with every new government or more often.

And the answers given by government are basically relying on the fact that TII have not and probably will not designate a national secondary route from Dundalk to Cavan.

Report on the N73 realignments (or lack of).

The actual important info: TII say that the €15m Annakisha South and €11m Clogher Cross-Waterdyke schemes could progress to construction in 2021 if funding is forthcoming. These 2 schemes combined are 7-8km iirc and would take out the absolute worst sections of this road, which are deplorable. The Waterdyke stretch has "oncoming traffic in the middle of the road" signage.

Two other schemes also ready to go to tender in early 2021. The N59 scheme has had planning since 2012 and the N60 scheme since 2014.

Manulla bypass was meant to go to ABP around now but it has been delayed because a business case has to be prepared under the public spending code.

It is anticipated that the N59 Newport to Derradda Scheme will be ready to commence procurement of a construction contract in Q1/Q2 2021. The detailed design of the N59 Roskeen to Derradda will commence during 2021.

It is anticipated that the N60 Heathlawn Scheme will be ready to commence procurement of a construction contract in Q1/Q2 2021. It is anticipated that the statutory processes (Planning and CPO) for the N60 Manulla Cross Scheme will progress throughout 2021.

A lot of grumbling locally about the way the junctions on the old N60 through Oran were redesigned by Wills. They were exceptionally tight tbh.

Since this article was published about 2 weeks ago, the junctions have been widened either by Roscommon Co. Co. or Wills.

Immediately east of that proposed realignment there is a decent stretch, but yeah most of it is shocking.

Kilkenny County Council have published the CPO for the N77 Ballyragget to Ballynaslee realignment. 2.44km of Type 1 Single Carriageway (700m offline) from the recently completed Ballynaslee realignment to south of the Glanbia plant.

The N25 approach to Rosslare Port is to be re-jigged in standalone project to go ahead before the bigger Oilgate to Rosslare (dual carraigeway?) project, and the route was chosen a couple of weeks ago as "option C", an offline route diverging from the existing N25 before Morgan Fuels/ Circle K filling station heading west on an existing link road for Roche Freight where then the new part of the road begins taking a loop around over the railway to a brand new Freight traffic entrance on the western edge of the port.

Heres a cr@ppy image but it still gives a decent idea of whats planned, the blue road is the new scheme which ends at a new roundabout/ entrance to the west of the port, with a link road to the passenger side / existing entrance/ roundabout on the eastmost side.

A future project should be to come off the N25 west of Kilrane, nick the bottom south-east corner of NVD site and upgrade the road alongside it leaving a cul-de-sac south of there.

According to Galway Co Co's latest budget, the preliminary design of the N17 Milltown to Gortnagunnad scheme is complete and statutory processes (i.e. submission to ABP) are to start in 2021.

This is the most deficient stretch of the N17 in Co Galway so it can't come quickly enough.

€2m has been allocated by TII for the planned GSJ on the N17 outside Claremorris in 2021.

This suggests they will be tendering for the project imminently and that construction will start before end of 2021.

Kanturk Relief Road

Option 3 looks like the best of those, but Option 2 will probably be what gets built.

For a road that gets so much foreign tourist traffic, those bends can be lethal.
