I personally would have to say that I think it is at risk of being overrated in comparison with other Irish whiskeys at a lower price point, but an element of that is a matter of taste. 1792 bourbon featured recently in a bourbon tasting I did with the Master of Malt bourbon advent calendar and my recollection is that it's a decent mixture of rye and caramel, not a bad sipping bourbon. The cask strength version was notable for being a Jim Murray pick for whisky of the year. Can't say much about Bunnahabhain but I've enjoyed the odd sample from there. I'd be curious how the Smokehead stacks up against the other Islays you mention...

All worth trying in thirty something euro range Sexton Tesco Finest Single Malt Bush 10 Single Malt West Cork Single Malt Dha Chasca

Find myself a bit overwhelmed by choice now when I go to the press and am planning on doing dry January (with the caveat that I'm not starting until the 3rd ) so am going to try finish off a few bottles over the next few days. Have a little bit of Method & Madness, Knappogue 14, Writers Tears Red Head and Laphraoig 10 to try get through though I'll be happy to just get rid of one bottle. Something to look forward to in February anyway, lots of whiskey to get stuck into. Happy new year all on here, great thread and so much useful opinions and advice.

If it could be found Powers Signature release A number of Teelings’ offerings Some of the current iterations of older Cooley whiskies- Tyrconnell as mentioned, etc Honestly maybe I’d sooner have a rake of Powers Gold Label, or just something different... even if it’s a bit flawed...

I do think John’s Lane Is even better but it’s pricier than Redbreast 12.
Mellor wrote: It may be bottled by West Cork. But if it’s a 12 year old, then it’s not distilled by them.
