What Whisky/Whiskey are we drinking this month?

I know there's a thread on recommending Whiskeys/Whiskys but there's none on general tasting as far as I can see.

Similar premise to the beer thread, but we'll say month instead of week as drinking a €50/60 bottle of Whiskey/Whisky a week is probably not a good idea...

I picked up a bottle of The Glenlivet Master Distillers Reserve on my travels recently. No age statement.

Not the most complex Whisky in the world. It's quite nice though, smooth and fruity, very strong taste of pears, and a tiny bit of spice. Drank with a splash of water.

I had a bottle of redbreast ready. Ended up eating a bag of waffles and some lidl butter biscuits before falling asleep when I got home instead. Made up for it the next few days though! Good luck with it.

Redbreast 12 Cask Strength is a great drop.

Lagavulin 16 is €90 or so. It’s a classic.

Greenspot Leoville Barton for me but I haven't tried the redbreast cask strength and it's top of my wanted list

That’s a fantastic tasting imo. Afaik, none of those are actually commercially available whiskeys. Very interesting to see how the distillate changes over time under cask/time influence.

I got the email about the bushmills tasting whilst driving through the back roads of Monaghan. Struggled to get a signal to buy it! As Mellor says none are commercially available and I can't remember a 21 cask strength come up at a tasting before. I have 100ml of the normal 21 year old which is 40% so it'll be interesting to try that too with it.

Info on the 21 below.

Matured in 3 woods; Oloroso Sherry, Bourbon and Madeira casks for a deep maltiness with hints of spice

Combination of Single Malted Whiskey. a 50:50 combination of whiskey matured for 19 years in a combination of oloroso sherry casks and bourbon casks, married together and then finished for over 2 years in madeira casks.

Nose Aromatic maltiness and subtle nutty toasted raisin notes.

Palate A whiskey of considerable depth that interweaves dried fruit flavours with spicy oakiness.

That Glenmorangie tasting is also really good. All good whisky but the Signet is spectacular.

Of course it only shows how relative taste is, but I was actually really disappointed with Signet.

I'd consider myself very much a fan of Glenmorangie, and the missus got me a bottle last year. Wanted to love it, but I would struggle to recommend it to anyone unless they had tried a sample first and confirmed it was for them.

The heavy roasted chocolate malt is certainly 'unique', but for me it wasn't unique in a good way...

Up with the in laws for Christmas. I have two 30ml sample bottles and a funnel secreted to steal whatever fancy whiskey the father in law might get for presents. Revenge for the Ardbeg incident.

Had a quick rummage already but all the gack has in stock so far is this non alcoholic American Malt. The sample bottles remain empty!

Thanks all for your suggestions on what to blow 100 quid on. Couldnt make up my mind after googling them all so had a note with me and decided whichever one I saw first, was coming home with me.

The lucky winner was the Aberlour A’bunadh. €75 and really looking forward to trying it. The remaining €25 went on powers for herself and her hot ones.

Thanks for suggestions. No doubt I'll be asking again at some stage.
