Taoiseach shocked and dismayed at Sinn Fein TDs tweet on IRA attacks

Taoiseach Micheál Martin said he was “shocked and dismayed” by a controversial tweet sent by a Sinn Féin TD that referenced IRA attacks during the War of Independence and the Troubles.

On Saturday, the Laois-Offaly TD tweeted in reference to the Kilmichael Ambush in 1920 and the Narrow Water Massacre in Warrenpoint, Co Down in 1979, claiming they were “the 2 IRA operations that taught the elite of d British army and the establishment the cost of occupying Ireland. Pity for everyone they were such slow learners”.

Eighteen British soldiers were killed at Warrenpoint by the Provisional IRA on August 27th 1979 a deaf civilian was also killed after soldiers fired across the border into the Irish republic after the attack out of anger and rage.

In the 1920 incident at Kilmichael, a total of 17 British soldiers were killed, alongside three members of the War of Independence-era IRA.

Mr Martin said that the tweet by Laois-Offaly TD Brian Stanley was “appalling” and has done “huge damage”

Do you really think the tweet was all that bad or is Michael just point scoring?

Our former minister of health didn't even know what covid-19 meant. Stanley said some things on the radio in March when we had the wealthy flying out to Cheltenham and didn't know all the details about the disease. He was also being put under pressure to answer a stupid question by a well known blueshirt radio presenter. Nothing to see here.

FYI, I actually think that he should go on account of the homophobic and moronically ignorant COVID remarks. My defence of him in this thread is solely related to his tweets celebrating justified attacks against Crown Forces. The former are things the party should, in my view, be actively dealing with.

Still doesn't trump the cost of living and the absolute f*cking nightmare I've seen so many of my friends who don't live in their family homes go through over the past two years so SF still have my vote regardless. But they should deal with that kind of sh!te within their ranks.

I would say there is multiple reasons for it.

The vast majority of people who voted SF, did so because the people (especially the under 40s) are fed up of jobs for the boys, banks getting away with whatever they like, insurance companies ripping the general public off, rent prices at a record high meaning people cant save for mortages etc.....

FG are an Irish Tory party, its clear to see.

And I did give FF a chance at the start of the year, but they havnt changed one bit and have a leader whos goal is not to run the country but have the title of leader (although everyone knows hes not leading, Leo is)

Personally I (and ( suspect many others) couldn't give a f*ck about their standard of politics as long as they turn the ship around through legislation and do something about the cost of living.
