Always seemed a bit rude to cold-call local firms and ask them if they wanted someone to hire. Surely if they needed people they would advertise this? If you sent a prospective application to one of the big firms outside their Milkrounds window they would probably throw it into the bin.

It is really annoying how hard it is to get into offices. I understand that the work has to be there. But even to get experience is impossible and then they don't want you without experience. Its all very annoying. Thankfully I was one of the lucky ones and got experience and a trainee contract, I pity those struggling tho. BIG TIME

Harder yes but I would give it a shot, there may be research or something you could do from home. You could even try NGOs working in law-related areas, they are generally underfunded and may be happy to offer you something.

I don't think it's considered rude at all, sure the worst thing they'll do is say no or not respond! The firm I work at gets a lot of unsolicited CVs requesting work experience, and even if we're not hiring they are kept on file.

Of course the milkround firms have their designated recruitment times and application processes but small/mid size firms are not the same and you may get lucky!

With one exam left (Tort) I am considering the City Colleges Prep course. Has anyone had experience with them for Tort ? How did ye find them?

Cons. is a tricky one, the least predictable/repetitive of any subject imo. The questions asked tend to be quite vague and it is often hard to discern what the examiner is looking for (or at least this is what I have found), the last two papers in particular.

Examining past papers is still the best way to go imo. There are some topics that appear almost ecery sitting that you can incorporate into a given question. However, given that the course is so broad, there is a considerable amount more to cover in comparison to other subjects to ensure that you are good to answer 5 questions. There is also generally a focus on contemporary/topical issues/case law so it would be worth reading up on those.

It'll be different for everyone, I bet some people love Cons. and find it easy! Hope that's of some help!

Yes, I just sat the tort exam with city collages and to be honest it wasn't that great. The lecturer was often busy and a lot of lectures had to be postponed which made me fall behind personally (I understand sometimes these things are out of the controls of college). After doing the exam I found the manual to not go into as much detail in certain areas and lacked in others. The lecture notes are essentially the manual but simplified nad there was no revision lecture since we were so far behind. My experience wasn't great so I don't recommend it but its just my opinion!

I think September 2021 might be too far out to speculate. It would be great if they offered a hybrid going forward with the FE1's in terms of the current online option and a physical sitting for those who still prefer that format.

For instance they could run the physical sitting in Dublin as normal and instead of running the Cork physical sitting they could facilitate the current online format.

Regardless, I hope they run the current online format for the next round in March and save myself the commuting/hotel costs and the stress induced environment of the Red Cow.

Law School are great for Tort. The lecturer knows the topic inside out and knows exactly how to approach the exam.

I am looking at the criminal grid right now, I haven't jumped into it at all yet. However it looks like a lot of subjects to cover and all more or less on recent exams. I am curious as to why people generally vouch that its one of the easier ones? From the outset it looks as daunting as EU or cons!
