Agree with much of your commentary,making your arguments very well.

The problem as other posters have stated is that we need Aidan to put out fires in so many quarters.

The top teams are capable of nullifying his midfield prowess.

"The problem there is that he does not dominate kick-outs. In the modern game, any goalie worth his salt will easily keep kick-outs away from the big man. So we'll have Aido huffing and puffing running around in circles trying to get hold of the ball, but getting nowhere. And we don't have a keeper who can deliver a proper kick-out to him. And even if we did, it's easy for opposition management to counter that by just piling into the back of him, stand on his toes, hold jersey etc. We've seen it all before."

You are right to state he has not scored as heavily as Donaghy at full forward although his role is a tad different to Star's.There's no doubt Donaghy was a superior score taker.

Unfortunately it's always a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul.But I am unsure Aidan has been utilised correctly nor for a sufficiently prolonged period at full forward.Quality ball delivery oft marked absent and no Mayo player within sight.A degree of persistence is required if results are not immediately obvious.It was argued on OTB that such a move is required because what's gone before has not got us across the line.We need to mix things up.

It was tried for periods against Dublin when we chasing the game or Aidan O Shea ran out of gas in the middle but there was oft a marked absence of quality deliveries and support play.Cian O Sullivan swept up much of the broken ball.

Sebastian stated correctly that we have our share of flakey forwards who can shot the lights on their day but on an off day...

Aidan O Shea has stated himself that he prefers to play facing the goal.His want to be involved in the action makes it imperative that he used effectively inside.

TBF I have never seen Aidan O Shea in better condition than the last couple of years nor playing better.

It goes without saying that when playing into a gale it's a tad futile leaving Aidan stranded inside.

What concerns me more is that although Conor Loftus has been performing admirably in a quasi midfield role I am not convinced he is the long term partner for Matthew Ruane.

I'm surprised at how well he's going there, hopefully he keeps it up. DO'C/fionn/ Kevin Mc can play there too so there's options if things aren't working out. I like how fluid the team is now, where changes inside the 15 on the pitch can be made more easily.

My concern is keegan- he's wasted in full back line. I wonder if a move to midfield would be good. He loves the action.

Dunno if he has the legs to keep with Fenton or James Mccarthy, he looks very bulky this year

Probably good news in a way for winner of Roscommon - Mayo. Both Sligo & Galway have lost their last 2 league games and would need a competitive match before a Connacht final.

Rumoured that Robbie left the panel a few weeks ago.

In many ways it solves a problem for the short season that’s in it
Clarke number one byrne number two
Takes a bit of pressure off Clarke and if he gets injured then Horan has no option but to blood his successor

It should never have got to this point without a new keeper getting FBD/league experience
This was always coming
Clarke is nearing the end and Hennelly just was not the answer . Too many question marks over his mentality on a big day along with weakness under high ball etc

We are a squad in transition now anyways . May as well try a new keeper next Spring James ......

Excellent news from sligo, this could be the break we need. Assuming we beat Roscommon on Sunday you would imagine rusty Galway who will come into the game off 2 defeats will be there for the taking.

Winning Connaught by beating the two top teams will leave us in a great place to push on but we need to banish the demons of of inconsistency and pressure game floppers. The big players need to park their egos and give us consistency which is something they refuse to do.

This could be our year, everything falling into place (Tyrone gone, Dublin spluttering, we are the few teams who have no fear of Kerry, Galway for the taking, we can match Donegal). Has any team been relegated from the league and won Sam in the same year?

Steady on!! Mayo are more likely to lose again the Rossies than go on to win Sam this year.

Excellent news?? Seriously?? At least seven people have tested positive, of a team that has been training away to get a sniff of championship and its now turned out to be all for nothing, and you see this as excellent news?

Even from a selfish football point of view, it's not excellent news!
Galway will be well rested, albeit maybe too rested.
But if we get past the Rossies, we'll be playing for the 5th week in a row, so will surely have some level of fatigue and possibly injuries.

Lots here dismissing the Rossie challenge.

One of the most backward posts I've read in a while. PS, either Donegal or Kerry will wallop you whether you fear them or not.

People looking ahead to who would track the likes of Fenton. Totally ignoring that our Connaught record over 5he past number of years isn't great.

It has been completely devalued now . Who is to say this won’t happen a team in a provincial final or AI semi etc
I’d hate to win or lose it in those circumstances.
Beat Roscommon. Beat Galway.
Then call it off

Probably best for the country if we don’t win it thai year as well !

Surely its inevitable before another few teams are eliminated due to someone on the squad contracting the virus. Has there been any discussion by the GAA as to when it would be abandoned altogether if a heap of teams are eliminated and it would be farcical with only a few teams left? The absence of even one team like what has happened to Sligo makes it a bit of a damp squib.

Honestly, even if it was Republic of Ireland in the Euros and we were progressing because of other nations being thrown out due to infection, or even eventually winning it, it would be a load of worthless bollocks.

John Horan has suggestd that AI semis and finals will be postponed until later.

But imagine a scenario where the winner of Roscommon - Mayo get the virus like Sligo. Galway could potentially be in an AI semi without playing a match.
