    if Joe wins the presidency
if the Dems win the senate ..
if he then decides to pack the court
if all Dems in moderate states choose to vote to pack the supreme court ..
if a current sitting scotus pops off

so thats at least 5 big 'ifs' ... and theres probably others ..

meanwhile on the non-hypothetical no ifs required , side of things

Donal Trump the man with the gold plated suite overlooking NY from 50 floors up, HAS appointed 3 judges to the SCOTUS , all relatively young .

    no need for number 5.

Yes, it's called packing the court and it is highly irregular

Trump and McConnell have shown that they don't care about norms, traditions or regular order. When they had the Presidency and Senate, they did what they wanted, norms be damned.

But just like the deficit, the Republicans will pivot on a dime as soon as the Democrats are in power, and the norms and traditions will suddenly be important.

    Nope: Elections have consequences.

That's a bit disingenuous, McConnell spent 2 years creating those openings. Obama didn't choose to leave that many vacancies, Mitch created them and admitted as such afterwards

Which is why the Democrats should immediately set about reforming the federal bench once they get the power to do so.

As opposed to Gerrymandering the court. US politics is sick to the core. The very idea of massive political influence and rigging of the judicial system being an admirable aim and an achievement to be proud of and to brag about just highlites how utterly flawed the whole process of government is in the US.

Real Clear Politics, have moved Michigan to lean Biden following a Fox news poll putting him 12 points up.

For all of you confident in Trafalgar's methodology , they have Trump 1% ahead and there is still time to remortgage the house and put it on Trump.

To be fair , they also moved Minnesota back to Toss-up from "lean Biden" earlier in the week so it's a small net gain for Biden in the "Lean Blue" category.

Interesting to see that the "vs. 2016" Comparison in the swing states in moving back to Biden.

Biden has been ahead for quite some time , but for the last 2 weeks the gap has been smaller than it was in the same timeframe as 2016.

Something that a lot of Trump supporters viewed as a sign that Trump was making a comeback etc.

However , that neglected the dynamics of that particular period in 2016 - The 1st two weeks of October coincide with the release of the "Access Hollywood" when Trumps numbers absolutely cratered for a while before recovering.

His recent "recovery" compared to 2016 wasn't really a recovery.

I’d say nobody had that admiration for Obama before he went in and did the job.

Also that post about drones and bombs - Trump has done everything on that list bigger and nastier. Facts.

Completely agree, but that’s exactly what’s been going on:

The GOP blocked 1 Justice nomination and well over 100 federal judges from being confirmed. Then they campaigned even on Obamas inability to fill those vacancies (because they wouldn’t allow them) and ever since Trump won those seats have all been filled with party handpicks and a lot of unqualified people. Several hundred federal judges now. Trump has appointed over a quarter of the judges that make up the justice system now.

It is indeed irregular and may require packing to combat packing to return to normal.

More developments, Hunter Biden's laptop was apparently seized by the FBI from the repair shop as part of an existing money laundering investigation, according to newly released documents.

    https://www.nationalreview.com/news/hunter-bidens-purported-laptop-connected-to-fbi-money-laundering-investigation/

The document has a “Case ID” section, which is filled in with a hand-written number: 272D-BA-3065729, according to the report, which says multiple officials and the FBI’s website confirm that “272” is the bureau’s classification for money laundering and “272D” refers to “Money Laundering, Unknown SUA [Specified Unlawful Activity]—White Collar Crime Program,” according to FBI documents. One government official told Fox News that “272D” is “transnational or blanket.”

“BA” means that the case was opened in the FBI’s Baltimore field office, while the documents say that the subpoena was carried out in Wilmington, Del., which is under the jurisdiction of the Baltimore field office.

“The FBI cannot open a case without predication, so they believed there was predication for criminal activity,” a government official told Fox News. “This means there was sufficient evidence to believe that there was criminal conduct.”

Gets worse and worse for Hunter and Joe Biden.

    What's 'normal'?

Irregular implies unlawful or illegal. You may not -like- that hand-picked judges have been appointed, or that the Senators blocked judges on ideological vs qualification grounds, but that's not to say it's not within their acknowledged powers to do so. Witness Nixon's over-a-year-long attempt to fill a seat in the late 1960s. Is not your proposed solution more hand-picking of judges?

No it doesn't. What sort of idiocy are you attempting? I pointed out the FBI seizing the laptop about two days ago and that Giuliani never had the laptop, only a purported copy of it's hard drive, and here you are making out it's a newly revealed coup de gras when it's old news.

If it’s normal find me a president who has molded a bigger percentage of the justice system with appointees - presumably besides George Washington and early presidents.

Over a quarter of the courts filled/replaced in 4 years.

Sorry, I assumed most people were up to speed on the sequence of events. I'll fill you in.

The laptop was seized by the FBI in September 2019, we didn't know why until now. All we knew was that agent Joshua Wilson took possession of it. The repair shop guy had made a copy of the drive to transfer onto Hunter's external drive. He later passed a copy of his copy to Rudy's lawyer. He also said he made two other copies and gave them to friends 'in case anything happened' to him.

Now we know the FBI had seized it as part of an active money laundering investigation that already existed when the laptop came to their attention. That wasn't known two days ago.

I expect that by the 3rd of November, we will find out that Hunters laptop also included the following.

A photoshop file showing Obama's original Kenyan birth certificate edited to reference Hawaii.
The GPS co-ordinates of the location of Jimmy Hoffa's body.
A list of the original coca-cola ingredients.
The original Game of Thrones Season 8 plot which was stolen and replaced with the pound store version we ended up having to watch.

This 'releasing' of information, the narrative around it, the people involved is so laughable you have to remind yourself that this is the intelligence and professionalism of the close confidants of the President of the United States of America and that is a sobering thought.

Your logic there is pretty Swiss cheese bud.

The Steele Dossier was considered evidence by the FBI. Does this mean the Dossier is totally genuine, not fabricated or a hoax?

A nice analogy but ever so slightly disingenuous.

Many on the Nasty side of Anglo Saxon politics, namely the Conservative, Brexity, neoconservative, anti-immigration, anti-Europe, US Second Amendment supporting, social-welfare-hating, MAGA, America First, we-hate-globalisation-but-we-still-outsource-all-our-manufacturing-to-Mexico-and-China people (sometime lazily described as "The Right") like to warn against the nefarious long-term strategy, espoused by what they call "The Left", of the Long March Through the Institutions.

Normally credited initially to the early 20th century Italian socialist Antonio Gramsci, later developed and espoused by more recent radicals like Rudi Dutschke in Germany this strategy proposed to change society gradually by infiltrating institutions such as the universities, the media, the civil service and other public sector bodies and turning them to the progressive, statist, socialist way of thinking by force of numbers. (More Evolutionary than Revolutionary but there you are)

To listen to many Nasty commentators, the Douglas Murray, Peter Hitchens, Tucker Carlson ilk, this has already happened and now the universities and the "Main Stream Media" are bastions of "wokism" or "political correctness" or whatever is the phrase-du-jour for good old fashioned self righteous priggishness.

In the US, the Nasty people (called Republicans over there) have followed a mirror strategy but their Long March has been through the judiciary. In that benighted country, the President gets to nominate senior judges at Federal level up to and including the Supreme Court but the "checks and balances" that pertain there mean that the Senate has the final say on whether or not a judge gets appointed. If they don't like the President's pick, they just vote to reject the candidate or, more blatantly, not to consider them at all.

Obama didn't "leave 49 Federal judicial seats vacant" like some absent minded grandparent looking for his glasses which were on his head all the time. He was blocked from filling them.

If you want to continue your soccer analogy, your suggestion that Obama was a glory-hunting full back poncing around in the opponent's half of the field thereby leaving his own penalty area unguarded and presenting the opposition with simple tap-ins is utterly disingenuous.

If the penalty area was left empty it was because the defenders had been put out of the game by some tough over the top tackling, and so they were either writhing in pain down field or taken off the field altogether.

In the case of the Supreme Court of the USA, the Republican influence is ominous. In the past 50 years or so, since Richard Nixon came to power in 1969, there have been 20 appointments to the Supreme Court (assuming Coney Barrett is shooed in which she has not yet been at the time of writing). Of those 20, 16 a whopping 80%, have been appointed by Republican presidents.

Of the Democrats, Carter notoriously wasn't able to appoint any in his four years in charge. Clinton appointed two in his eight years, one of whom was the late Judge Bader Ginsberg, and Obama appointed another two, Judges Sotomayor and Kagan. Trump has appointed three (assuming Coney Barrett gets confirmed) which is astonishing for a single term (so far ) president.

The derogatory term among left-of-centre, or even right wing, people for those who support the "Long March through the Institutions" strategy is "Trot", short for Trotskyite.

Seems to me that the Bushes, Reagans and Trumps of this world are the more effective Trots by far.

Just watched a few seconds of it. He was actively getting annoyed before the interview started. Basically expected an easy interview... Not sure how he doesn't understand that leaking it doesn't work in his favor.
