As someone else said it depends on your knowledge. I think you should concentrate criminal law and possibly contract law.

The reason I’m not recommending equity is that it’s more common to get a “bad” paper and also provides you more time to give contract a proper shot too!

Not at all foolish! I got 90% in a masters level assignment on this area and didn’t even look at it for the fe1s because it’s so vast and constantly changing. It’s something to look at the night before or on the morning just on the off chance that you’re stuck but if you study nearly everything else you should be good to go.

Re Company:

Would an answer that focuses mainly on the provisions in the Companies Act 2014 and with only a couple of cases be enough in some areas?

Narrow areas like Regulation of Transactions between Directors and Companies under ss238 and 239 don't seem to have a lot of case law I can find, and the examiner reports seems to focus on just setting out and applying in detail the sections of the Act.

Thoughts?

Would try and include it if you can. It didn't come up in March and could be due a run this time around.

Hey guys, would anyone have any equity materials they could pass on? Specifically looking for any typed notes, exam grid or most recent papers? Willing to swap some tort or criminal material. Would really assist as I’m running out of time to write notes!

I reckon if you have your notes made out you probably could do all 3... It depends on yourself and how you study, personally I'm still only finishing up my notes now and I will start to learn them off next week, that's just what works best for me as if I learn it too early I'll forget it. If you've only made your notes recently you probably already know a fair amount of the material.

You could focus on 2 of your subjects and then just study the third one to a lower standard, focusing on key cases and hope for the best on the day - you could get lucky with the paper

The lady I was speaking with said if you’re not comfortable with sitting the exam online, write an email addressing the November FE1... email, stating you’re not comfortable sitting it online and you’ll rather have a physical sitting, they won’t be postponed till March so not to worry, they are just doing this to gather information and have alternatives for people who don’t want an online exam!

The whole "we can do a physical sitting" is a solution in search of a problem.

Most people are happy to do it remotely provided they have an option of writing the exam.

The LS should hire some of us as consultants. Heck I'll do it for free.

I would prefer a physical sitting but that’s just because of what I’m use to doing but I get that typed online exams may suit others

But to have options is all we need that way everybody is catered for.

looking for a steer on Constitutional. I'm clueless, and will still be come 3 weeks time, but just wondering if somebody would guide. When reading exam papers I am bamboozled. It seems like many chapters can be asked together (I'm not a person who believes all topics are separate, but Constitutional seems the worst). Now that Eoin Carolann is an SC, just wondering will he still have made the paper/be correcting it. His exam reports are more than useless IMO, and he can pluck a topic which hasn't been asked for ages (e.g. Art 45 in 2019). Any steer would be appreciated.

However, the one thing I note is that he does ask areas which would have been updated/litigated in the last 12 months. My material doesn't help in this regard, and just wondering does anybody know of an area that would have been in the spotlight in the last 12 months or so (unfortunately google is failing me).

Any help is appreciated.

Gathered some of this from going over past papers, hopefully is of some help.

SOP - Every sitting since March 2012. Last paper was very SOP heavy.
Art 40.3 - Only missed 2 appearances since 2011 (March & October 2016)
Trial in Due Course - Very popular question, appeared 5 times in last 7 sittings but not in March.
FO Expreesion - Another very popular topic that did not appear last round.
Private Property - Appeared in the last 6 sittings.
Equality - Every second sitting since Oct 2018, no appearance in last paper, may be due a run.
Family/Education - No appearance in either 2019 paper but featured in March.
Religion - Featured twice in 2019 but did not appear in March.
Referanda/Reform - Featured twice in 2019 but not in March, has never gone more than one paper without appearance since 2012.
Cons. Interpretation - hasn't been up in last 3 sittings, never gone more than 3 without an appearance.
Sovereignty - hasn't been up in last 3 sittings, never gone more than 3 without an appearance.
President/AG - hasn't appeared in last 4 sittings, may be due a run.

I agree, finding cons. quite tricky too, really does appear to be the least repetitive subject in terms of questions asked, probably due to the volueme of material.

Big case on fair procedures/natural justice this year - Damache v Minister for justice (same guy as DPP v Damache, they wanted to revoke his citizenship after all his shenanigans)
Also Corcoran v Garda commissioner, its about that eviction that turned into a riot a couple years back in roscommon or somewhere. Court said journalists can't use freedom of exp. to protect their sources.

both are easy to find on courts.ie and you'll probably find a few articles about them to since the backstories are semi juicy

Edit: there was also that big environment case at the end of the summer, SC said gov's climate plan sucks and wasn't specific enough. but refused to find an unenumerated right to a healthy environment in this case, but didn't entirely rule it our either.
Not quite sure what section this would fit into though

For constitutional I’d be looking at emergency powers, bodily integrity (masks, vaccines, testing).

Hate to say it and depends on examiner’s tolerance for her but consider the Gemma Doherty / John waters case.

The constitutional provisions concerning the Dáil could be another hot topic given the mess we had earlier in the year.

Look at what the leading Irish constitutional law academics have been writing in newspapers/twitter/blogs about these events and be able to form a critical viewpoint on it.

Corcoran is v interesting as Simons J refers to some useful ECtHR case-law in relation to the motivation of the informant- JP is less likely to be successfully invoked if the motivation behind the informant's disclosure is not to inform the public (the informant here seemed to just want to warn other people who are privy to/partake in evictions)
