surely with such a big change to the exam (whether it suits you or not) they are going to have to take it into consideration when marking..

They haven't given us many instructions really. Just these rules:

External communication with anyone is not allowed during the examination.
• Do not leave your workspace during the examination.
• Your webcam and microphone must remain on during the examination.
• Do not have any other applications open on the computer during the examination.
• Please be available for up to 30 minutes before the scheduled examination start time

They have just told us what we need and that its typed. They did say we would get more information today but who knows if that will happen when some people didn't get the email.

I've tried calling that number 8 times this morning and no answer.

I wouldn't be holding out much hope for them answering any calls during the exams if we have difficulties.

If anyone has any advice on how to go about practicing typed answers/rewiring my brain to only type notes for the next 2 weeks i'd appreciate it.
My automatic reaction is to pick up a pen and jot down notes.

I am just going to attempt the past questions in a timed setting and repeat until it comes easier. I'm also going to turn off the spelling autocorrect. I really think that's all I can do to prep.

I know someone who's with the ACA and when I mentioned the LS instructions to them, they told me it sounds very similar to how the ACA online exams have been for them. They're allowed pen and paper but that you need to show that too to the invigilator to make sure that the pages are blank. I hope that's the same for us

As for the typing, I would say maybe starting to type out your sample answers from here on out to practice. What I'm doing at the moment is having the past papers open and a blank word doc open and typing out my answers

Now they're recommending Level 5, my other half will be working from home and our wifi is very poor. If the creches aren't open we'll have to look into a babysitter for our child too.

i actually have a wrist injury that causes me pain when I type for more than a few minutes- from metacarpal damage - so i am praying they allow us to write answers.

it could have been better organised and i would have been given more of a chance to prepare myself, adapt, work out my best option / alternative for these oh so 'integral' exams! lack of organisation is leading to a lack of respect..

I'm done moaning now , there's not much point. i just hope the law soc learns something - or reads this thread. I hope everybody remains positive and the study goes well..

Hey, if you have messy writing it doesn't necessarily mean you are slow at writing. You may be able to get a lot down in poor handwriting. The concern re typing speed is that candidates won't be able to type enough to answer the questions or reflect their knowledge in the area. There's an obvious distinction between the two and it's a valid concern for anyone who hasn't done much typing.

I got through to her this morning. I asked about not getting the email and she said that there's quite a few of us who hasn't gotten the email and there must be a fault in their mailing system that she didn't know yet and hoped that she will know more this afternoon. She also said that the info sent out in the email will go up on the LS website today

The LS has updated the website with the information in the email people received. Nothing different from the email but if people who didn't receive it want to check its up there now.

Apologies if this has been answered but I have been one (of many I'm sure) who was not lucky enough to receive an email from our beloved Law Society.

Has there been any infomation given as to the length of time of the exam? Will it still be the standard 3 hours or will they give us additional time seeing as it appears we will have to tab back and forward to read the exam questions etc?

This information was not in the email unfortunately, no details as to timing

Right, typing is definitely going to slow some of us down. Over a three hour period, that could equate to what? One page? Two pages? More? That could be 4 cases, it could be 8 cases. It might very well be the difference between passing and failing. I can see this coming a mile off but what if we hit mid 40s. Obviously, we would fail the exam but surely all things being equal in a traditional pen ‘n paper exam we would have passed. Imagine getting a 47% through the door from say handing up half a fifth question due to being slowed down the previous 4 questions. You’d like to think this will be considered when marking or IMO the duration of the exam should be extended to recognise this.

Just on a side note but surely we’d be allowed to have a cup of coffee on the table? It doesn’t say but “comfort of your house”, etc.

Yes a lot of us didn't get the email for some reason, the LS are aware of this
They've updated the website now with exam info and apparently it's the same as the email was

Yeah, but the website says if you didn't get it the two reasons are that you're not registered or you email address is wrong. Which is not the case for for me and the previous poster, and possibly many others
