Would this list work ok for a basic but upgradable gaming system for my son?
I can add in my old SSD's and operating system, monitor etc.

Many thanks for any advise, budget can go to €1100 if ness.

Nah that's a very decent build. Worst case scenario if you see any of the newer components that get released (like the new AMD GPUs or CPUs) that become available by the end of the year, Amazon have extended their return periods until the end of January so you could always swap them out if you really wanted to.

Monitor resolution is only 1600 x 1200 so thats pretty terrible

Its a pretty decent widescreen 1440p 144hz and should be fine with a 5700xt and a 3600 which you quoted above

It's not it's 1440p 2560x1440.

The Samsung is a better buy though, the HP is a TN panel vs VA for the Samsung.

Although I'd recommend spending the bit extra and looking at something like the Asus TUF https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07VW9ZD6Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_pv1GFbCF2D403 which is an IPS panel

Some good stuff has arrived.
Cpu came with a spire non RGB so I grabbed a Prism off Adverts this afternoon, thats whats in the other Ryzen9 box. I also picked up a couple extra ssd's.

I hope it's a 1.4 at least for that price. I ordered one on Amazon for €7 that I though was 1.4 but it turns out it's only 1.2. Fine for my 90hz 2560x1400 monitor although it won't do 10bit FRC colour which the hdmi did do.

It did fix some of the issues that I thought the gpu/driver was causing though like not turning back on properly.

What is the need for DP though in this case? The included HDMI will do 1440p 144hz, unless I suppose you wanted to connect a 2nd display via the HDMI.

That was my reason. Card only has 1 hdmi port and I connect the PC to the TV sometimes that needs HDMI. My second monitor is an older 1080p panel that needs hdmi as well. Gonna be getting a good 1440p/144hz as main panel soon, probably a GL850 if the prices ever get back close to £400, with the 90hz 1440p becoming secondary and selling the 1080p one.

Ok just got confirmation of Nov 25th for a AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-core, 12-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor with Wraith Stealth Cooler .
as soon as i can afford and it comes available im buying a AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600X Graphics card hopefully before Christmas.

Any obvious problems you can see swapping out my AMD Ryzen™ 5 3600XT Processor (6C/12T, 35MB Cache, Up to 4.5 GHz Max Boost) – With Wraith Spire Cooler
and my PowerColor AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT Red Devil 8GB GDDR6 HDMI/3xDP

Should it just be a straight swapout?

You'll need to update the BIOS before swapping CPU so that it can support 5600X.

For Graphics card upgrades, safest is always to download DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and remove the current drivers; then shut down & change GPU.
