It's been a few years, but the G Hotel in Galway.

Although, sauna & steam room are closed & thermal suite must be pre-booked.

Cavan looks great but no spa. G the same.

Europe, monart booked out.

Faithlegg House Hotel just outside Waterford City is really nice. Lovely setting. I'm not sure about a spa, but they have a pool,gym,treatment rooms, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi.

I've dined here a few times and food is good also.

Doesn't have a Spa, but i'd highly recommend Markree Castle in Sligo. Beautiful

Whites in Wexico town is also a nice spot and has a decent spa

Muckross Park hotel is very nice with a nice spa area.

We stayed in Whites in Wexford last week and found the spa to be only ok.

Working through the list, Ice house, Farnham and seafield all booked out. Ashford only has thousand€ a night rooms left. Hotels seem to be doing very well.

Brehon is not the most amazing I could think of but with a lot booked out it's a good option- really convenient.

I was in Brooke Lodge recently. Food was great, I enjoyed that. The rest of it is wasted on me, but the wife seemed to enjoy it. The spa had an outdoor hot-tub which was good as well. For a pool though I either want it designed for swimming or slides, this was a bit small for swimming and had no slides.

Staff were lovely, there was a nice walk into Aughrim. As I say, those places really aren't my thing, but I'm pretty sure that place is a good one if it is.

Stayed in the G recently. Very meh. Sh!t location as well. It's trying to be 5* but it's SO not one.

Calling you sir or madam doesn't make it 5 star. The decor is gawdy and worn out. The staff are not well trained.

Save your money and go to a very well run 4* instead. Ballygarry House in Tralee is one that springs to mind but there are loads.

I'd agree with this. The rooms are nice in the G, but the rest of the place is badly in need of a facelift. It's not deserving of its 5 star rating. Bang average place with saucy pricing.

When I return to Ireland I tend to spend some time in hotels as it means I can avoid my mother's cooking.

I'd rate Ashford Castle as the best hotel in Ireland I've stayed in. Book a suite instead of a room as the rooms can be a bit small. The King George the 5th restaurant there is excellent. Martin the sommelier has an encyclopedic knowledge of wine, and they have a serious cellar if wine is your thing.

The Europe just outside Killarney is also outstanding, but the restaurant wouldn't be up to the standard of Ashford Castle. Killarney is a difficult town in which to eat well.

Ballynahinch Castle in Connemara is also a gem, with absolutely stunning views, and a very fine restaurant that showcases the best of local produce. It's also less 'formal' than Ashford.
