In previous years they would ask for written references and just call your current employer after they made an offer and you accepted. Did they ask you for a written reference or did they specify they want it from your current employer??

I have not seen any offer and will not until I pass this part of the clearance they have made that very clear. I have tried explaining my situation , but they won’t budge on it. And then what happens if you expose yourself to your current employer and PAS withdraw the offer, I could end up with no job. It’s possibly one of the worst positions I have been put in employment wise.
Chats2020 wrote: » Hi Mike, I am currently in the private sector. I have been given a deadline of Monday morning at 10 am to supply the reference details and if I don’t I will be withdrawn from the campaign. I have tried ringing PAS. They are not answering/taking any calls and when I asked the person emailing me if I could ring to speak with someone, I was told it’s email only as everyone is working remotely and they are not receiving or making calls. So basically the person dealing with my application is the only one I can talk to and that person is very unhelpful. I know you think I may have confused myself somewhere in the process but I can assure you this person has made it this difficult. You see, I was initially asked for a reference to complete the clearance process , dated within the last 12 months & I was told a manager in my place of work would be fine to give the reference. I then explained my situation , that I have no manager within my office , only 2 colleagues, we all work as a team , & next in line to that for a reference is the owner of the company or the HR Dept. I explained how they are not aware of my looking elsewhere for employment and I would rather keep it quiet until I get a placement offer and make a decision. After explaining this I received and email back stating that they “understood the difficulty but it is essential to the process” to get a reference & it can’t be from a colleague. Unless I supply the details of my reference (which can only be HR at this stage) I really don’t know what else I can do without risking my current position. I have never heard of this happening anyone else.
Reference Checks Before being deemed suitable for appointment to a position, the PAS must be satisfied in respect of character and prior work performance, if any, of a candidate. In order to do so, the PAS will arrange to conduct reference checks.Should you be successful at interview, the PAS will require a reference from your current employer (if any) and will notify you before contacting same. Should you have any gaps in your employment over the last 12 months, PAS may request you to provide evidence from the Office of the Revenue Commissioners and/or Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection. Information on how to obtain this evidence will be provided should you come under consideration for a postion. Additionally, you will be required to provide a character reference. A character reference must be from someone well acquainted (but not related) to you e.g. School/ University/Volunteer Group/Sports Club. This may not include members of the House of the Oireachtas or members of An Garda Síochána.

They'll ring you and ask if your still interested and send out the vetting forms, this took about 5 days for me. They also send out reference forms, asking for further confirmation of your id and a health declaration. Once the vetting comes back, they advise your application is with hr strategy and they request to contact your current employer for a reference. Each stage roughly took 1-2 weeks. Roughly from the point of interview to the job offer, it was 2 months and then my notice period.
