The Restaurant Recommendation Thread

There's been a crazy number of threads recently looking for restaurant recommendations, so I'd like to start a specific thread for it. Please post below about your favourite restaurants - why you like them, what price range they are, what type of food they serve, if they have an early bird, opening hours if you know them, where they're located. If you could include a link to the website, that would be great. The more details, the better. This is not a thread to post negative reviews - there's a thread in the main Food & Drink forum for that if you like. Basically, I want this thread to be full of recommendations, not positive and negative reviews. That being said, you can disagree with a recommendation briefly if you really feel the need to, but you must have a really valid reason such as an awful experience, rather than "I don't really like the food" or "It's too expensive".

I find Nash 19 pricey enough. Food is nice there though. They used to charge for a side portion of relish that came in a little ramakin with your sandwich. Even if you said you didn't want it, they would still give it and charge around 80 cents for it. I haven't been there in months now, so I don't know if they still do it.

sounds extortionate.. i hope ye at least got a bickie with your coffees..

have been there a few times - food is good but found staff not so nice so never became a regular

so many places in town with good food and nice staff - would rather give them my money

I paid €3.30 for a medium takeawy Americano is a CircleK in Monaghon.
That aside Nash19 were always pricey.

Lunch in Union Grind this afternoon. Nice cajun chicken toasted wrap. Wrap, side salad, a coke and a cappuccino to finish for just over a tenner.

The outdoor seating is fabulous.

Plenty of council folks there talking about expanding it all the way down the quayside when the other pubs open there.

Bring it on I say!

I found the staff were lovely, depending on who you are!!

I've paid as little as €2.50 and up to €3.30 for americanos in the last few weeks. €3.95 is pretty steep for a basic coffee but then Nash 19 was always expensive and lacks atmosphere.
I'd rather support somewhere else like Gusto on Washington Street.

I’ve heard that the woman who owns that place is an absolute nightmare to work for and that there’s a very high staff turnover as a result. Wouldn’t be a place I’d give my business to.

Was only ever there once,and had first hand experience with just that....put me right off ever going back tbh....

In a former life I had business dealings with her and I'm being extremely polite when I say that she's quite the handful. Certain customers from the South Mall are fawned over while mere commoners barely get a look in.

Hard to believe with the amount of places that go under in Cork that business owners don't get this.

Treat them fairly, pay them fairly. They'll treat your customers right and the custom will return.

thats looks quality - fresh salad too - and v good value - Nash 19 could do with seeing this..

I'm not special but I think the management there shows preference to certain customers over the likes of me!!

You really need to treat all customers as equal, and staff fairly. I don't support places that don't.

Fair enough, but be sure you are objective with that too, not just basing it on some random rumours.

Nash19 has some staff in there that have been there for years, which is some going for any cafe, as servers and catering staff tend to be mobile by the nature of the business. Not everyone is going to be a waitress as a long term career, it’s often a step to something else.

Maybe this ‘handful’ reputation is because you almost need to have the personality where you take no bull, when running a small business through a couple of recessions successfully. Jamie Oliver’s nice guy schtick got him absolutely nowhere, 1000 jobs down the drain.

And sorry lads, but we all know sometimes the public are a royal pain in the hole. Don’t we?

That said, There is definitely a bit of a new customer learning curve there in that place too, which is intimidating. It used to be (still is?) so busy with a heap of people who go there every single day and know exactly what they want. Dawdling at the counter kinda drives the other customers bonkers. That’s probably what makes it feel cliquey , when the regulars in the queue are being greeted by name and you can feel the eye rolls behind your back while you try to figure out what you want. It’s like a tiny cork version of a busy pastrami place in New York, where you get physically ejected if you don’t order in 5 milliseconds. Let’s call it character!

Yes, directly across the road by the water.

The wraps were tasty and had a nice, fresh side salad. With a drink and coffee for a tenner I found it to be good value for a quick bite for lunch. Mightn't be your thing, and that's okay too.
