I think Pope is a fair shout to be included, there's always going to be some players that miss out. VVD's problem is he has to live up to the standards he previously set.

And how has he not lived up to the standard set last year? What part of his game dropped off? He played more, scored more, and we had the best defence in the league.

He was awesome last year this year he was just awesome again, simply no improvement.
I'm not saying he shouldn't be included but someone always misses out on these popularity contests, there's no right or wrong list on something so subjective.

A lot less Clean sheets this season tbf, he was still outstanding, but he was a Clean Sheet master the season before

And why wouldn't they try and get the best price? A few million extra in this environment could be the difference between the club bouncing right back up or cutting corners to survive in the Championship.

Van Dijk's biggest problem is that he looks like he's playing at half pace all the time.

He is, in a very literal sense, the best player in the league. Longevity is it's own metric, but he's the best defender I've ever seen. He's so much better than the chaff he faces every week that it just looks easy.

But unlike Messi or the likes, you can't look at the stats at the end of the season and say "Well **** it. He's after scoring 60 goals. Of course he's POTY."

Yeah if you're not watching full games you're not going to notice everything he does, even if you do you'll likely miss a lot of it. Can't remember where I read or heard it but even compared to the CB's he plays with he covers a lot less ground and makes less sprints as he just gets himself into the right positions over and over again. He makes two or three vital shifts to his position can go unnoticed easily but Salah/Mane or any other attacking player makes a great assist or goal and there's highlight clips everywhere. There's not going to be any highlights of VVD moving a few yards a few seconds before the ball comes near him and he makes what looks like an easy interception blowing up twitter.

I rank him and then Alisson as our most vital players. Those two are playing and we're likely to keep a clean sheet and we have enough quality going forward from full back or up front to create chances even if one or two of them are missing.
