It's not going to be a Liverpool city race, at least one of united Chelsea are going to be involved. It's hard to guess till the transfer window is closed but I think not signing werner will come back to haunt us, we needed his quality but mainly that he will improve a rival so much.

My point ain't just Ake and Torres, Koulibali and Martinez are being Heavily linked, and 300m is apparently there to spend, while Liverpool have said repeatedly we have no money, I think getting Ake, who lets be honest, is better than both Jones and Otamendi, Koulibali and potentially another great striker will bridge quite a large gap. As well as having Laporte injury free for a season

Also having no fans will impact Liverpool far far far more than City

They'll get Koulibaly or some better CB than they have.

I expect City to win the league easy. Probably no 100% crowds for much of the season will help them.

Very hard to keep getting 90+ points 3 years in a row.
Plenty of signs since winning the league that the team needs some quality added for competition & depth but its not really possible atm.

I can't get my head around beating that City side the way we did. The points they were putting up were insane. To come so close and go at that level again was unbelievable. I do agree when you look at the bookies odds the Leicester thing stands out but they had better players than the odds suggested, rode their luck (as any winner is entitled to do) and pounced at an opportune time. In fairness it's not like many make that move. Think of all the best defenders in that league over the years, nearly all are Italian and never went to England. The opposite is also true, the best English defenders never go to Italy. The only CB I can think of who went there and did well was Stam and he was kicked out. Vidic had his best years before going to Italy.

The last CB of note I remember coming from that league was Rudiger at Chelsea a couple of seasons ago. I think he's decent.

Koulibaly is quality but you kind of feel if he were to move to England in his career he should have done it years ago.

For me the reason we compete with City isn't just talent, it's leadership. City are hugely lacking in it since Kompany left and now with Silva going and an ageing Fernandinho and Aguero you don't see many true leaders on the pitch.

Then you look at us with Salah, Mané, Henderson, Robertson, Keïta, van Dijk, Shaqiri all having worn the armband for their country at least once or as national captain. Gomez captained the England u-23's, Wijnaldum captained PSV to a title.

And out of the players we have who haven't captained their country you have the likes of Alisson, Fabinho, Firmino, Chamberlain and Milner all of whom I wouldn't think about twice if they captained Liverpool (and a couple of them have done)

From City's squad I don't see that same leadership. KdB yes, maybe the likes of Laporte, Walker or Gundogan but none of them play every game and lack the sort of steel you want from a leader.

They have not had a rest since the restart in June and if they go late in the CL tournament they will not have a rest before the new season starts. Due to the late start to the season it will be another hectic season with 2 games a week more often than not. The Premier League will try to catch up games at the start and once the CL starts it is 3 weeks of 2 games a week as well, a little break then they go again.

Then we are into December and we know how hectic December in the UK is as well. Add in the FA Cup in January and the first break their players will have from almost non-stop playing will be the week break in January. They will need to buy a new team to help them cope, without taking into account the lost players this year.

I am not saying we are walking the league again, I am saying those worrying about them now on rumours need to calm down. We are in a better position as we don't have to integrate new players or important players to try and shore up our defence.

Also, if they win the CL they will play in the Club World Cup as well, more games in December. Too many games have stopped teams from winning before, because players that are tired makes mistakes.

Have they? I think you might have made that up. All the usual sources have said they won't make a really big signing, but there is ALWAYS money there, and outgoing fees will probably make up a big part of the pot. But that's been the case for us for almost all of Klopp's reign.

We have Jones, Neco, Brewster and Hoever who can be squad players, that's probably £50M worth of talent if we were to buy them today. That's the model we will keep following, with big signings to sign big gaps as they appear. We always seem to find value. -

I put €60 into the inflation calculator and it says the equivalent of €60 now would be €76 which is still a long way off €90.

(Please don't kill me if I've made a mess of the maths!)

It ain't 90 though, its currently 140 in Ireland, the other Jersey is 90-100 and its clearly not a real Jersey, honestly I am glad Liverpool got a good deal from Nike, but the fans have been absolutely shat on, €140 for a Jersey is absolute madness regardless of the brand

City can buy 5 top class players, it won't change the fact the can only play 11, can see them trying to buy their way into allowing them to play 13 players at a time though
But as it stands our 11 is far superior, can't see that changing any time soon, I expect another title next year, and another after. Maybe one of their players makes our team, maybe.

If it's 5 subs again for the whole EPL season coming up, that would be a massive advantage for them. I think it's being banded around now and some are in favour of it but I'm not sure where the final decision rests.

That said they had 5 subs after the restart and managed to lose two games so.

We have spent alot keeping our best players and will need to continue to spend to that. That can't be forgotten, the wage bill has rose alot over the last few years. Trent is going to need a big contract soon. Are others been paid more than their counterparts at other clubs? We boast the best CB and fullbacks in the world.

Under Kenny the spend a record fee on Big Andy they also bought Adam and Henderson and half a dozen others two worked out. Luis was signed under Roy and arrived under Kenny.

Under Rodgers Edwards only got the players the club wanted if Rodgers got his signings so Rodgers got his signings.

Under Klopp both the club and the manger got the players they wanted even if that meant waiting and breaking world record fees.

Yes deals fell through under Klopp however they didn’t have a huge effect on the ongoing form of the club.

I believe if and when the club need buy a world class starting player FSG will release the money as they have done before.

We have never spent much without selling first. 2018 was when we spent heavily & it was the year we made huge progress.

That's not entirely true though... the Coutinho money gets appropriated to an awful lot of transfers, but in a pretty short period of time we brought in Van Dijk, Alisson, Fabinho, and Keita for a combined ~240 million, with Coutinho being the only major sale at around half that.

Liverpool don't need to go spending huge money on players who are not nailed on starters, which is great, because this is the worst time in the last decade to have to go out and buy. And honestly, regardless of top players wanting to join, we will never be that club that goes out and buys them regularly, like Galacticos. Once every so often, to fill a key position is all it will be, and all it should be. We're in a fantastic position where the the club is really good at buying players just before they evolve into being superstars, rather than coming as superstars - Coutinho, Suarez, Sturridge (before he devolved again), Mane, Salah, Bobby, Gini, Fabinho, Robbo etc etc. And, even better, most of the key guys are tied down to new long term contracts - which we've never managed to do with our good teams in the PL era.

IMO all's pretty good at a very bad time!

I can't see klopp,hendo,Millie,Andy,vvd letting our standards drop ,they seem to be the vocal aggressors on the pitch,and klopp on the sidelines, mo and saido will want to score 20+ at least , hopefully bobby has a Stormer .. the kids Curtis,neco,Elliot come on a few more leaps and bounds, I expect nothing more from diviock than we have already seen, cube is going I'd say, ox chips in his fair few goals..nabby could be a megastar..

We are a stable team,they all know their roles,they know each other,we are champions of everything right now,flying high..

the monkey is off our back,we have that winning experience and mentality,both home and in Europe. Unbeaten for 3 seasons at home in the league. Record point totals year after year,all sorts of records broken this season.

The rest should fear us,this very squad has the two biggest trophies won in consecutive years,city ain't done that ..

13 players got new contracts last season so there is a financial outlay there.

Only Adrian and Gini's contracts expires next year. 2 sub keepers and Milner in 2022 and the rest of the squad is 2023/2024. We have our key players tied down for the next 3 to 4 years while bringing youth through too.

Money is being reinvested in the current squad. I see it as Edwards and Klopp look for value for money instead of just paying big on a player.

Spurs ended season with played 6, won 4, drawn 2, For 10, Against 3

Last 8 games their PPG was 2.13, Only United and City had slightly higher. He is building them into his trade mark style team

15/8for Liverpool is kind, a good start and we'll be 1/3

I remember when Ferguson was in charge at Utd, once he had a solid starting spine/core, his changes to the squad were kinda small. Or so it seemed. I mean he spent money but it was only for the right player(s). He also bought a lot from "smaller" clubs.

Klopp is obviously a fan of Ferguson's approach and I would imagine he will do something similar.

Ferguson also had to keep spending big as he kept firing his best players. I'm sure Klopp's capable of this too like with Sakho but I did read somewhere they put a lot of effort into ensuring they are getting the right character as well as the right player.
