Expensive brands do fall apart. I bought a Tommy Hilfiger sweater and it just fell apart after 2 wears. While a cheap sweater lasts for years. It's pretty crazy,

Personally I prefer Nike, but I only buy running and gym gear, Don't wear it day to day

The best part about New Balance was that the largest Junior size was the same as the smallest adult size.

Have to see how how the Nike fit is. Was a good money saver for a few years there getting the XS for a good bit cheaper

I see Odsonne Edouard knocked in a hattrick in Scotland to open the season for Celtic.

Honestly could be an astute buy right now - really does look a player. Quick, strong, great vision, great finisher, good feet in tight spaces. Celtic dominate their games obviously, so well used to scoring goals against packed defenses. Still only 22, so a nice compliment for the three lads.

Moussa Dembele left Celtic when equally (or more) established for 20million, so Edouard could probably be got for a similar price. Be especially ideal if Divock fancied going the other direction and being a hero there for a few years.

Are we ever going to spend big again. This window could come and go too. It's pretty remarkable to be as competitive as we are considering it's over two years since we signed a first team player. Last one was Becker in 2018.

One thing though - being competitive is dictated by the squad and first team you have, not by the additions made. For instance it would be remarkable for West Ham to win the league without adding first tram players. But Liverpool have been building a squad for years, and effectively got to a place they were happy. Since Alisson there hasn’t been a first team position to spend big on. If you have brilliant players in every position, it’s not surprising to be competitive. Their money over the past 2 years was better spent doing what they did, which was keeping all these brilliant players together - first time in the PL era Liverpool have done so.

Now, in the longer term of course you need to get back in the market as players age or lose form, or gaps appear, which Klopp talked about a lot when he extended his contract to give him time to transition from this Liverpool team to the next Liverpool team.

But all in all, no panic. They’ve been going about things in a very intelligent manner over the past 5 years, no reason to start second guessing them now.

A lot gets made of the Nike distribution channels but it would be interesting to know what % of shirts are sold online and what is high street retail. Likes of Sports Direct buy the shirts whole sale at discounts between 25% and 50% so the % commission for LFC is not as high as a shirt sold online from the club store or Nike themselves. The Twitter thread above gave the example of a £70 shirt sold online by the club garners £14 for the club but if sold through Sports Direct it results in only £8.40.

Nike said they are targetting the sale of 3 million shirts this season which at £70 per unit gives a total pot of £210 million just for shirts and not including all the other stuff like training tops, hoodies, etc which collectively will outsell the actual shirts. Liverpools end of the deal will be circa £75m for the year.

Id wonder as online sales increase if the value of a Nike or Adidas distribution channel via Sports Direct and similar is worth it. By the time their margins are factored in the clubs commission gets pretty low. Perhaps clubs in future might go down the road of manufacturing their own shirts (in the exact same Asian factories they are made in now) and only selling online direct. Amazon and Aliexpress as a distribution channel cover much of the world and they take about 15-20% commission on sales. Even if a club sold less shirts by going online direct only they would be getting much higher margins than a Nike/Adidas deal. Theres around about £400m-£500m on the table for LFC merch this year and the club will come out of that with around £75-£100m. But you'd wonder if a club went down the Amazon/Aliexpress route could they net £200m or even £300m by taking Nike/Sports Direct out of the loop.

Nike are sports marketing experts and everything but when the split is 80% to them and 20% to the club when alternative and much cheaper distribution channels are readily available you'd wonder is there a better way of doing it that would double or even more than double what the club gets out of it.

Next season is where FSG's lack of investment will catch up.

All the best young talents in the world with Sancho going to Utd,Havertz to Chelsea.
Mbappe will be off to Real next summer.

While we sit still & run our front 3 into the ground & have competition for places.

I dont have huge expectations for next season. Cant expect Klopp to continue to perform miracles every year. The mental strain the last 2 years is huge too so hard to sustain that without new players.
