Most, don't want a penpal, they want to go on a date so don't go on forever chat for 2-3 days and then ask if you would like to meet up. Not too hard, just a nice way of seeing if you can get an initial connection going doesn't have to be more complicated than that.

Yes, children would leave their addresses in and ask for letters. I must have written to a lot of bad creeps. I'm sure there was a dating section beside it.

Don't think you can say that in the case of ones like Hinge/POF/Match one versus the other is for people looking to get hitched quick or anything, Tinder definitely originated out of a desire for more casual hook ups but the profiles which state they are not looking for ONS outweigh those stating they are there to have fun at this point in my view. In my target age group anyway (mid 30's+ female). But stage of life is probably a huge factor in that also. My tinder experience in the US has involved a disproportionate number of bot accounts compared to back home and plenty more who lose interest when they hear I am not a citizen. I'm quite popular on Hinge for ladies 3-8 years older than me In general, all dating sites have become severely impacted by 'the paradox of choice' more and more as time has gone on in my view. If their popularity had been delayed by ten years, they'd be going through an actual explosion in popularity right now but think a lot of people are now bored with the novelty of something at a time when they are unlikely start anything with a new person given restrictions, lack of things to do, places to go, etc. Hard to know what the future of dating is going to be like. Professional matchmakers never really grabbed a lot of attention in my lifetime as people aren't generally comfortable with the idea of it being a cold/calculated process and we all desire at least some sense of butterflies in a new relationship as opposed to something more like a business arrangement of sorts. Maybe Covid will in time be shown to have overcome some of that paradox of choice I mentioned earlier as people invest more in getting to know one person and being comfortable with getting close to them. All of the above is heavily influenced by my age and those of the people I am interested in. I suspect those in their 20's who think Covid-19 is a hoax, old person thing or whatever are carrying on as they can. Going to be an interesting newspaper article and 8 min chat show conversation in early 2022 when the numbers for pregnancies, STD's etc for quarters 2, 3 and 4 of 2020 are available for analysis.
