Retr0gamer wrote: » I've bought two consoles based on the promise of exclusives and it was a terrible mistake in both cases. The PS3 was one and I payed 500 dollars for a 60GB model. It was an awful console for ages and by the time it became a console worth having it was significantly cheaper. Same with the PS4. Had one preordered at launch and swapped it for a WiiU as launch was awful. Didn't regret it. a Year later got one for Bloodborne, which I did like but the PS4 since has been an extremely poor console for someone with a gaming PC and not worth the price I paid for it.

They're damned it they do damned it they don't. They're probably very much thinking here that digital is where the main amount of sales will be in the future so best not spend too much time and effort on changing the packaging too much.

It would have been nice to see a little shakeup in that department with something that reflected the unique design of the console. It feels very much like an afterthought. The PS2 and PSP line logos were lovely. What they use now is really dull.

So sure, you can wait 3 years and save a couple of hundred quid if you really want to. But if you enjoy gaming as a hobby and you have the money (and gaming is cheaper than most hobbies) then there's absolutely nothing wrong with buying the console on launch day.
