F1 2020: Styrian GP (Austria, Part Zwei)

It is great to get another race in Austria this weekend, and this time maybe the bigger teams will get things right (hopefully Red Bull).

We don't think Ferrari will be at the races this season, so our hopes are laid on Red Bull and perhaps Pinkish Merc causing an upset to Mercedes.

I have to say, maybe McLaren can capitalise again if we have another high attrition race!!

No difference that could be observed.

Perhaps they were running different setups in their program and they will know internally different.

Would affect lap times compared to last week a small bit, i wonder is there any other ways to make the races different

Yeah, continuing with the "what did go wrong for Ferrari" from the Austrian GP thread, all the Ferrari-engined teams are in trouble. I was quite shocked to see the speed traps data from last week - Ferrari lost anywhere between 10 and 15 km/h in all of them.

Alfa and Haas are also in trouble, although proportionally less than Ferrari - looks like in Maranello they developed a super-high downforce chassis with the assumption that the sheer power from the engine would take care of the straight line speed, only to find themselves effed up when said advantage went out of the window.

Like everyone, I'd be curious to know what the "trick" actually was - and if Ferrari's motorists could have been smarted, Mercedes-like, into going to the FIA beforehand with the "hey guys, we're developing this thing that kinda breaks the rules but can be twisted around them, it's all right, isn't it?".

Apparently the race director has said teams should prepare for a possible Sunday quali. Theres heavy rain and thunderstorms predicted tomorrow so session may not go ahead.

Given Stroll's issue last week there does seem to be a fundamental flaw with this years Mercedes engine. Didn't Hamiltons fail completely during one of his pre-season tests? Its powerful but unreliable.

Agreed. This years Ferrari is possibly the worst one since 1996 going by what I’ve seen so far.

Ferrari bringing a new floor and upgraded front wing for this weekend according to the rumours on Twitter, with additional upgrades for Hungary the week after. If the engine is a dog though, no amount of aero updates will make a meaningful difference.

2020 Formula 1 Styrian Grand Prix session timings

F1 will still run its traditional format of two free practice sessions lasting 90 minutes each on Friday, followed by an additional practice session running for one hour on Saturday morning.

The Q1, Q2 and Q3 knockout-style qualifying format is also being retained on Saturday afternoon to decide the grid for the 71-lap Styrian Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Formula 2, Formula 3 and Porsche Supercup series are all acting as support classes.

They are bringing there upgrades forward to this race now instead.

I read somewhere that they were going to bring the upgrades forward to this weekend.
