How is a "wave" of covid 19 defined ?

Everyday, there's a story in the media that a "second wave" is coming to Ireland and I'm wondering did we actually have a First Wave ? To me a "wave" would mean that lots of households in every parish in the country had someone in bed with the virus, obviously people would say the reason that didn't happen is because of lockdown but surely then Ireland is at risk of getting it's first wave not second?

When we were having 1000 new cases a day, that was wave 1. People now have sense, very little chance of a 2nd wave.

I think they mean Krona, the margarine from the 1980s we all loved.

But only if we're sober. Apparently we're pretty bad at social distancing when hammered. And imagine getting a sweaty Nightlink back from town with no facemasks being worn.

There's not the cases out there now for a 2nd wave in 2 weeks.

Strictly speaking we could have a very small second wave that could be a miniscule fraction of the original wave and still be classed as a wave. If you throw a rock into a pond at what time do you decide there are no more waves in the pond? With corona it's a bit easier because you have a discrete number of cases.

Our second wave could be 3 days of 1 case per day in November or perhaps we are in the second wave now as there's been a bit of an uptick in cases since they started re opening pubs

I reckon November. Won't be bad and there'll be localised lockdowns, not nationwide.

If it washes over you and makes you feel wet and icky, it's a wave.
