Have you had negative experiences with foreigners in Ireland?

Everybody loves to complement Irish people for how open they are to foreigners and how well foreigners can settle in here.

However, no one talks about all the bad stuff and the negative cultural differences that Irish people have to put up with.

Have you experienced any negative behavior from foreigners? I've seen foreign people openly smoking weed in Dublin city centre, with no shame whatsoever. What's your experiences?

The only ethnic group I have had notably negative experiences with is Irish.

I've had way, way, way, way more negative experiences at the hands of Irish people than I've had from foreign people.

I have friends from Lithuania and Slovakia who have had to put up with some disgusting behaviour from Irish. There are always people who are not nice but I think we should look at ourselves before pointing fingers.

I've seen them smoke weed, drink in public, etc but lots of Irish people do as well. This question reeks of foreigner bashing. For every negative act you see foreigners do I'm sure there are a bunch of Irish people doing it as well.

Good on them. I have zero issue with anyone smoking weed either at home or in public.

I do notice plenty of Irish junkies roaming the streets though which we could do without. No shortage of drunks either who can be equally antisocial.

I remember walking down Nassau Street in Dublin in the 90s. I heard someone behind me shout “Hey Mick!”. My name isn’t Mick, so I ignored it. It continued “Hey, Mick!”, and I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around, and there was a short, balding white man in his forties standing there. From his accent, I could tell he was English.

“Hey Mick, where is Trinity College?”, he demanded.

Despite standing right beside it, I sent the racist prick off up to Baggot Street.

I will add that this episode has not influenced my perception of foreigners in general.

When I think for a little bit, yes I can think of negative experiences with people who were foreign.
Negative experiences with people who were Irish bubble away in me on the other hand.

I have passed many an Irish lad on the street openly smoking weed, hell my neighbour does it all the time.

That is not a "cultural difference"

I got attacked once by an American because I accidentally stepped on her heel and she roared at me and pushed me.

Also got shouted at once by English guys on a ferry when I was about fourteen.

Best - Polish by a country mile
Worst - Irish and Kuwaitis.

Kuwaitis were so rich they had no respect for anything- scribbling phone numbers on the walls for instance.

In my experience a lot of Polish workers tend not to accept policy and procedure as is and are always complaining about changing things or taking short cuts to make their own working lives better. As an example, we have a policy in work for design and execution of engineering protocols and without exception, any of the polish workers who see this try to cut corners, complain that "in my last place we did it this way" or generally trying to put their own stamp on things whilst ignoring established procedures.

I've a couple of apartments down in the Ringsend neck of the woods. Renting to IT nerds working in Google and the likes.

I never rent to Irish people. Far too much trouble and too demanding. Italians are great to rent to. Very house proud and friendly.
