Detailing chat

Hi I've been thinking it'd be nice to have a thread where simple questions that people don't want to create a thread for, could go. Or any chat related to detailing.

I've a question. If I've put a wax on, then a sealant. Then after a few weeks or w/e I'm thinking the shine isn't what it was. (After washing obviously) Can I apply wax on top of whatever sealant and wax is left from the first time, or do I have to remove the remaining sealant + wax first?

Hi all. Can anyone recommend a paintless dent repair specialist in the Clare/Limerick area? Managed to get a thumb nail sized dent on my passenger door and would like to get it sorted asap. Thanks in advance

Has anyone used Pears soap to clean leather? I've seen it mentioned on a good few forums now that it is excellent to bring back a matt finish, a conditioner can then be used in top to maintain.

Hi all, any good deals on products looking for interior shampoo, some other bits. Need tar remover and bilt hamber for outside to use as snow foam too.
The interior of the car is all mould as been sitting up.

I made a bit of a discovery recently. I used a DI vessel to get rid of lime in my water for washing the car and during the post-wash rinse stage I noticed the beading to be a huge amount better than before.

This leads me to believe that with coatings and people saying they lose hydrophobicity, it’s (invisible to the naked eye) lime build up on the coating that causes this. That’s also why decontaminating doesn’t really work as you’re still using the same lime-filled water all along.

Before this new set up when I used the car dryer I would need a cloth to wipe off the water marks immediately after using the blower. Now it’s just use the blower and there literally is not one trace of anything on the surface. I did this as a test but with lime-free water you don’t even need to dry the car afterwards as it will not leave water marks.

No more breaking my back and ending up in a ball of sweat and misery trying to dry the car before the water evaporates!

For a mouldy interior I would give the car to a pro. It’s a nasty job especially if you haven’t done it before and aren’t sure if what you do will work or not. Pros will have the correct products and will know how to do it.

Bilt hamber auto foam is superb. I prefer it to gtechniq w4. Carpro tar x or gtechniq w7 are good tar removers.

Do you only use it for final rinse stage?

Done it before, brought the car out like new.
Mould and mushrooms were actually growing in the last one I done, she let the young one eat and drink.... Milk spills, yoghurt and basically anything else one could think of.

Done it a few times over the years different cars and never an issue, her car was laying up 8 months....

Looking for advice on a leather cleaner and best practice to use them anyone have any tips.

Car isn't worth much but still want to tidy up the seats if possible.

I’ve used it from start to finish to ensure no lime gets on the coating which I think is a much better idea but in order to prolong the life of the resin its best to use it for the final rinse stage making sure to hit everywhere with it.

I use Gyeon leather cleaner,work it with a brush and wipe off then apply Gyeon leather shield or Gtechniq leather guard

Has anyone gave in yet and brought their car somewhere to be washed or still holding out regardless of how filthy it is ?

I cracked the other day and got mine done of 5 star. It was pretty bad though I've seen it worse. I wanted to hold off in order to properly try the BH auto foam I got before the pipe ban but the dirt of it was getting on my tits.

I had planned to bring mine along with two buckets, shampoo etc. to a local DIY jetwash but it hasn't stopped p!ssing rain here in Galway for the last few weeks. Great that the ban is now lifted... as soon as we get a dry day I will be washing mine at home.

Turtle wax hybrid ceramic spray coating.

Carpro Reload.

Gtechniq C2v3.

Plenty more out there but they are all very good products.

C2V3 is more of a sealant than quick detailer. Gtechniq's quick detailer is simply called QD.
