On NBC nightly news, I know, a joke of a source, they have reported that those working at home as a result of COVID could now be the targets of Russian hackers.

No substance to the claim. No proof. No motive. Nothing, just that working from home means that your security is not as strict as in the workplace :rolleyes:

Don't they understand what a VPN is?

And why would 10 people working remotely 6 months ago be ok but 100 now is a huge security risk to the spooky Russians?

There are lots of Russian hackers and scammers its nothing against Russia to say that.

There are a lot of Nigerian scammers....

Russia is a HUGE country with a lot of organized crime and very little opportunity for even very educated people.

The Russian black market is a massive part of their GDP.

I mean normal good russian people get a lot of their medicines from the black market. If you have HIV or cancer you get your drugs off the black market. That business is ALL over the dark web. Its huge. And these gangs need techies to deal with it.

Its just a fact of life.

No, they don't. Which is what makes people more vulnerable. Your average user's technical skill doesn't extend beyond using Instagram and Snapchat. You ask most Americans what a VPN is and they will draw a blank.

It's not entirely unreasonable to suggest that Russiona hackers will target home workers in the hopes of gaining access to remote workers whose employer rushed the remote working set up and doesn't have adequate security. But it's doubtfull that these hackers work for the Russian government but instead will do the usual thing of encrypting data in the hopes of getting a bitcoin pay-off.

Any of my scam phone calls would appear to come from either India or Nigeria (which I entertain with great gusto).

The rest of the tinternet scams (old linkedin bulk hacked pwd teasers) emanate out of the likes of Czech Republic, Estonia and Ukraine.
