Why do travellers get away with stuff normal people wouldn't?

It's not fair.

They drive top of the range cars when they are supposedly unemployed. If a normal person were to do that they'd be questioned by CAB.

They engage in blatant animal cruelty. They mistreat their horses, they've been known to rush a pregnant horse until the foals abort. The engage in dog fights and use small dogs and cats as bait. If I wanted a horse I'd have to guarantee an acre of land for the horse to live on.

They steal catalytic converters and raid plumbers' sheds for the metal within. They make cars unroadworthy by their theft forcing the car owners to park their car up for days on end until it's replaced. A normal person would be punished for driving an unroadworthy car but the travellers wouldn't.

They steal power tools from hard working men and sell them on the black market with impunity and brazenness. The hardworking men are probably funding their dole that they are probably drawing under several different aliases.

The wreck any property they are given, rip up the floorboards, pillage the copper and abandon the house. If you or I did that we'd have to pay for our damage.

They burgled houses within a certain radius of where they live and terrorise the elderly, disabled and vulnerable and extort money from them.

They have an exceedingly high rate of domestic violence and assault.

They don't care who their targets are.I'm a victim of their crime myself so anyone who criticises me can shut the fūck up. I hate them.

They are NOT a different ethnicity. Simple as. Just because they call themselves one or they are recognised doesn't make it so. They are just as Irish as the next person, if not more. I believe they started to digress as a cultural group in the mid 1840's although I'm open to being corrected.

Because they would terrorise the police and their families if they tried to get them to stop.

I know lots of bouncers around town who have to let travellers into nightclubs even if they're making trouble as otherwise travellers would turn against them.

Yes in the eyes of the law travellers are seen as a race but most people disagree.

They do get away with a lot of things but so does everyone else, in fairness CAB do frequent raids on their houses and take cars and other property off them. I wouldn't agree with the person who said the guards are afraid of them and wont stop them because they would go after them, the biggest mistake criminals can make is to go after a guard like that, as the scum who tried to burn a guards house down this week will realize soon enough. also the prisons are full of them so its not like they are never punished for their crimes.

Gates are removed which results in further loss of livestock due to wandering.

Houses are burgled.

I happened upon a radio interview with a guy from the IFA talking about things in North County Dublin, talking about the struggles people in rural parts of Dublin face combating crime and some of the measures they were trying to put in place to help. Talking about the burglaries, the intimidation, the fly tipping, the assaults etc etc. He spoke well and it was interesting.

What also was interesting was the lengths he went to in making sure he did not say the words that everybody would have been thinking. "Certain gangs". "Known individuals". "Crime families".

He clearly had been coached not to say the word "Travellers". The implications of that should be worrying in a civilised society.

I didn't know anyone got social welfare cheques posted to them. As long as I can remember you went to the social welfare office or post office. Some were paid into accounts. Cheques in the post!!

They used to ask for their cheques, I never opened one so I don't know what was inside, small white envelope with a window and yellow form inside, this was about 15-20 years ago.
Point is they were all getting them, one house was getting 5 or 6 of them weekly.

I got welfare cheques in the post while on the sick years ago.

Was out for a run some day last week. Passed some fat little pavee on a bike. No more than twelve I'd say. All on his own and he still had the cheek to make a smart comment to me. All I could do was laugh.

Unfortunately they're dragged up by their parents so there is no hope for them.

It's not fair to say the vast majority. Nor is it accurate to say that the majority drive new cars either. Plenty of them use public transport.

And I've had loads of dealings with Travellers. Lived around the corner from some for years and never experienced any problems. I encounter them almost every day through my job and have yet to have any negative experiences.

I'm not trying to suggest for one second that they're all good, or that there aren't massive problems within the Travelling community, regarding crime, drink/drug abuse, poverty and health problems. Just that the kind of ignorant generalisations made by idiots on here aren't fair on the decent ones.

I also worked in a social office one Summer while a student, they'd be in the signing queue and then back again the day the community welfare officer was there getting emergency money for this that and the other, they were probably pocketing near 400 a week, sames ones all the time.
Getting baby equipment and household equipment paid for them.
I remember one came in one week and was after moving house, got money to furnish the house, wouldn't have believed it only the officer told me themselves.
If people knew the half of what goes on...
