I did accept Beam I will accept next payment because it helps to keep me a float but I do believe these payments are of more long term benefit to processors than farmers. If these payments stoped and market forces made producers leave the industry processors would have to pay higher prices or they would run out of raw material.

With this €50m passed it makes you wonder what concessions the Green party have been granted to get their approval of this €50m going to beef finishers. We'll know in time I suppose.

kk.man wrote: » That is a fair question however Creed said its aimed at the beef finisher and I am one. The second point is prices are depressed at both ends of the proposed reference period and why should the finisher lose out just because of a reference period in which not many ppl kill cattle in.
Duke92 wrote: » Yes have been for a while But the ppl killed cattle at €3:40 I wouldn’t begrudge them getting it I killed most in jan feb and done ok what I expected but if I had to kill them at €3:40 my profit would be gone I’ve only 12 since March 1

I agree that COVID was an unexpected shock to the system but constant bailing out encourages lads to stay in a system where the margin is low. If the market was left to control itself lads would start to exit winter finishing this would force processor's and retailers to forward price contracts. Winter finishing is popular by some bigger lads. They do not want to finish cattle off grass as it involves a lot of labour. It much easier to fill sheds with cattle and have them fed in 3-4 hours in a day. This can be seen from the fact that over the last few years the winter kill exceeds the summer kill. It is now nearly comparable with Autumn slaughtering. In the drystock sector the only case that is made for extra money is for winter finisher's. We had the drought in 2018 and there was a hooha going looking for money but in the end it was the BEAM scheme that was put in place. After this the hooha will start for the grain growers. But it a case of f@@k the rest of us

All these conspiracy theories are a joke, any farmer feeding cattle of any age and hurling vile abuse at processors/politicians are only the lowest of the low. There's enough suicide from cyber abuse without them contributing If they're not satisfied they should f... off and do something else. Creed claimed beef farmers got 200m in the last year, if that's no good, then it's time to man up and move on
