Degiro is likely calculating it wrong. It often messes my daily gain/profit. For tax purposes, you take the purchase price (in EUR) and sell price (in EUR) and calculate profit based on that. Take splits and merges into consideration when calculating a unit purchase price. if you bought 40 shares for 1 euro each and now these merged into 2 share, then your purchase price is 40x1 EUR, so 20 EUR per 1 new share. If you sell one share today for 21 EUR then you make 1 EUR gain.

If you purchased all the stock in one transaction and sell also in one transaction then the calculation is straightforward.

After reverse-split, you still own the same portion of a company, the same way as 1/2 means the same as 2/4. There's no gain or loss on such operation.

I was very pleased with myself on Monday after I halved the deficit I acquired back in February. Today I have added 50% to it

If ever there could be a silver lining it is that I sold fast as soon as the markets opened, which I always thought would be a bad idea as things can settle after an initial shock. I saved myself €300 by getting out quick rather than waiting to see what happened later in the day! Phew! Such the extent of the bloodbath.

Just bought some (not much) of Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) as this is one of the stocks which hasn't rallied during the recent mad ride and may represent not great but an OK value today.

I'll get another batch if the share price drops to $9.
There's a good chance it goes way lower than that, so I split the amount I'd like to put in this stock into small batches. If it keeps dropping that's cool, I'll be buying more, if not, well - I own a few shares already!

Please share if you watch some good prospective stocks which similarly haven't rallied much since the march crash and are now WELL BELOW the pre-pandemic levels.

On another note would folks feel the March drops are a measure of the bottom, can't imagine the fear factor being much more than then with vaccines even closer.

covid is circuling [wave 1 only] in usa...think USA airlines might go further south...usa wont close ecomomy again ,,so if covid tkes off people wont shop,fly etc...

Vaccine is like a carrot on a stick. We chase it and it's so close but we never catch it. I'm also sceptical about the vaccine's effectiveness. I get flu vaccines every year and had the worst flue ever like 2 years ago.

If people start dying in huge numbers again then further lockdowns are inevitable. You can't say we won't do more lockdown just because the economy is too fragile. The virus doesn't stop just because we're already tired.

I was thinking about getting this, as I know they bought nothing in March, they are probably sitting on a lot of capital to buy at the drop now - just my thoughts. They'd be stupid to make the same mistake twice?

I am uber-bullish gold in the medium/long term will all that money printing.

I wouldn't use it as an alternative for the VIX though (if this is what you had in mind).

While gold is a safe heaven asset, it also tends to see short term panic/forced sales when markets are panicking (i.e. the quid of situation when the VIX goes up). It then terms to recover quickly and sharply, but this doesn't mimic the behaviour of the VIX.
