Detailing chat

Hi I've been thinking it'd be nice to have a thread where simple questions that people don't want to create a thread for, could go. Or any chat related to detailing.

I've a question. If I've put a wax on, then a sealant. Then after a few weeks or w/e I'm thinking the shine isn't what it was. (After washing obviously) Can I apply wax on top of whatever sealant and wax is left from the first time, or do I have to remove the remaining sealant + wax first?

Yeah that what's makes it good I suppose. The novelty of thick foam with the autobrite stuff wore off very quick for me.

I am actually looking forward to when the car gets proper filthy to see how well the Bilt Hamber stuff works.

For someone without access to a hose/powerwasher (in my apt) - would a hand pump sprayer be any use for snow foam? (specifically bilt hamber foam)

I've been using the two bucket method alright, but just wondering if anything can make life easier without a proper water source!

I presume by "hand pump sprayer" you mean this:

It would be only ok. Ideally if you don't have access to water what you need is one of the following 8 litre sprayers to allow enough to cover the car without having to refill and you can do a mix in order to fill it and not have to do it again until it's empty which should be a good few washes:

D & D sell the 8 litre ones.

So you've got 2 main forms of sprayers you can get. You can get a regular pump pressurized sprayer that sprays a wet solution which is perfect for citrus APC's, degreasers, etc. There's numerous brands with a number of sizes and all online stores will have some.

If you are specifically looking for a pressurized sprayer that will create a foam(as opposed to a wet solution) that you can use snow foams more to how a pressure washer would, I'd check of the IK range of foam sprayers. There is others such as Gloria, Marolex, Venus that also do foam sprayers but i think the IK range is the best of them. If wanting to do the whole car without having to refill sprayer look towards the larger IK 9 Foamer. The other beauty about the IK range is that they come with 3 interchangeable inner spray heads for changing the consistancy of the foam......dry, medium and wet. And of course, they can double as a pre-wash regular pressurised sprayer.

Cheers, yea, wasn't sure on the terminology. Meant something beyond a sprayer for gardening. I'll do some homework. Ideally wanted something to apply foam before going over with the two buckets.

The €25 8litre option seems reasonable, but probably wouldn't be great for the foam.

Just double check with Reflect that it is indeed a "foamer" sprayer, as i'm not familir with that one. Have had a few Kwazar regular sprayers and they are good quality.

Also if ordering from Reflect, they are one of the group sponsor on the I.D.E. (Irish Detailing Enthusiasts) Facebook group(there is a handful of other good sponsors too), a great group to join, and offer a 10% code to group members.

Yep, took a spin in Saturday and got some Fusso light coat and few other bits and pieces! (with the IDE code!)Seems to be the new go-to place in Dublin after Detailing Shed's departure!

Wheel cleaner is my most used product. I was tired of buying 1 ltr/500 ml bottles so I have the 5 ltr drum now

Meguiars Ultimate Wheel Cleaner is ~€15 for 750 ml in Halfords at the moment (and that's the sale price). €33 plus delivery for 5 ltrs of Bilt Hamber is great value.

Smells grand! BH Korrosol good too, find it does a similar job on the wheels. Struggle to find the differences tbh.

Auto Wheel is a mix of iron remover and degreaser whereas Korrosol is iron remover only. This is very evident in the way the two products spray out i.e. Korrosol is like water and Auto Wheel is kind of gunky due to degreasers.

Typical isn't it. Wash the car and a few hours later.....

I soaked it with a wet tissue and gave it a wipe with Gtechniq Quick Detailer. Repeat soaking was needed as it was like concrete. What are they eating?

Any ideas how to remove this glue residue? De-badging a mates car today and couldn't shift this. Its almost like super glue. Tried tar and glue remover, heating with a hair dryer and even a small bit of petrol and nothing will shift it. I suggested a blast of a steamer maybe?

It should polish up well if we can get it removed. If not the badge will have to go back on :pac:

Decided to take the jump and try my hand at a bit more than the two bucket wash method. Supported local and bought from Peter in OCD as he did jobs on two cars for me and was excellent so seemed liked the honorable thing to spend here given the current climate.
