The content was standard speech-making, written by someone else and no more relevant or helpful than usual. But he spoke coherently, in sentences, looking around and being reasonably convincing as a person who was expressing his own thoughts. If you had never heard the stream of consciousness (or unconcsiousness) stuff you could think this was the real thing. He wasn't reading from a page or, apparently, from a prompter. What he said is not the point, how he said it is the question. Has he been practising, or have they found a stand-in?

Are you sure it is only the liberal left and democrats that are upset ?

It would appear to me that this is actually nothing to do with Trump per so, or politics. IT is an equality issue. People can see that things are very far from being right, that there is a large minority in the US that are clearly treated differently, until such time as they can become one of the rare cases of getting out from their background.

Why do you insist that it is political? Can you not set aside your own agenda for one minute to see that this issue is about America an how it conducts itself, and thus the moral authority to speak to countries like China for how they deal with their citizens.

The issue for Trump, is that through is singular inability to care, or if he does care then his complete inability to do anything, if making him look even weaker and further removed from the real US.

Given that he ran on a theme that the US was broken, and that only he could fix it, it is really telling that when faced with such a moment he has nothing to offer except a publicity stunt, in which he had to remove the rights of US citizens to hold a peaceful protest.

Again, all he had to do was stand up and call for calm.

Playing the God-card so that he doesn't lose any more of his religious base who have suddenly woken up to the fact they are part of the majority he has been heaping disdain and abuse on daily, with his insisting they not have access to mail-in ballots but MUST get in line to vote for him in Nov as fodder for the success of his campaign.

One thing he said was that the U.S was a nation of laws, something he clearly hijacked from the Democratic Party and it's lead prosecutor of the impeachment case against him in the senate. He's certainly pushing for that, only it's not a straight across the board equal application of criminal law except where the visual evidence forces his hand [as in the present case in Minneapolis].

Your last would imply he had to ask the public for something, not the act of the dominant person.

Indeed. Biden has been out there talking to protestors. Trump has peaceful ones cleared out of his way so he can have a photo op.

The issue is that what are the options? There is clearly a cohort using these protests as an excuse for criminality. Unfortunately that the case for almost everything. But just like we cannot disband the police because of a few bad apples, cracking down, dominating or whatever is the term is not the answer.

So is the best way to do that saying that you're going to smash some heads together and lock people up and we couldn't give a damn what people as upset about, or might it be better to say you are going to resolve the issue that have caused the rioting and anyone still out causing trouble will get their heads smashed together?

Governors United against Trump, GOP included, as the danger is there for them as well if they let the precedent be established de facto. The image of N/G troops on state borders standing up against the regular Army bizarre as it sounds? The individual GOP senators in Washington will wilt at the thought.

Because if there is one thing that the US has learned is that military intervention always solves the problem!

The vast majority of the protestors are peaceful. They have every right to protest, and the government should listen to them.

So the question becomes how to do allow the constitutional right of every citizen to protest peacefully whilst at the same time dealing with the criminality.

You, and Trump, seem to think that the answer is to crack down, treat everyone as a threat and if that means rubber bullets and locking people in their homes then so be it.

Indeed. I think DC shows up the lie that things would have been different with a peaceful protest. Some are looking to bash in heads whether or not the protests were violent.

There are many instances of individual areas where cops support the protestors rights from the start and do it right.

Any and every protest is handled the same. Police forcibly take control. This is no different. The actions taken afterwards to prevent a re occurrence is what counts.

Plenty of peaceful protests happen in cities worldwide on a regular basis without the police going in with tear gas and rubber bullets.

People protest. Police stand around and watch. Everyone goes back home again.

The protest outside the WH was peaceful until the Trump gave the order to clear them with rubber bullets and tear gas so he could do a photo op outside the church to massage good bruised ego.

It was peaceful until the police fire tear gas and rubber bullets at the crowd and beat journalists with their shields and chased the priests from their position of handing out bottles of water on the steps of the church. Very peaceful and a completely suitable way to get the president to have his photo taken.

And if you can admit that protest was peaceful then what happened to the line about the protests not being peaceful? You were right about protests only ending when the police forcible break them up admittedly.
