Either he will just read it out in the that 3rd Grade book report style of his when he tries to stick to a script or he tries to seem sincere such that he will end up blaming everyone else and talking himself up. He completely removed himself in relation to Covid, first saying he was in charge, then when facing push back from the governors simply saying it was nothing to do with him and blaming them. He is incapable of looking at anything past himself. Covid, even the race riots, or actually fairly easy to deal with from a PR POV. Sound empathetic, look concerned and look to bring the nation together. Any difficult issues simply wheel out the line about not being about politics, this is about our sisters, brothers, wives and husbands. Politics can wait. Almost every other POTUS has done it. Hell even Leo managed it at the start of the lockdown. Doesn't actually mean anything, but it gives people a sense of someone being in overall control in a situation that they have no ability to control. But that is so far beyond Trump. Even if he wanted to do it, and I actually doubt he does. he knows he doesn't have the ability.

I'm not saying its a good look for him but he might think its more familiar comfortable ground for him. Finally back to a conflict he can blame on weak Dem leadership etc. Might explain why he is more willing to fan the flames rather than show leadership to bring the country together (which he obviously has an inability to do anyway but he could at least try).

Imposing sanctions on HK and taking away their trade privileges punishes China, and in particular the political and business classes who use HK to invest and as a place to move their money. Even as important, China loses face when the international community recognizes that China has failed to keep one country two systems and is repressing HK people. The US and many other nations have recognized this but it is led by the US because without their lead, smaller countries are unlikely to take any action. The UK is a different situation entirely and one would feel they have an obligation here because it's essentially their fault. The US didn't take HK nor give it back. Why would Trump move or open an embassy to HK? They are not seeking independence. Comparing it to Israel is bizarre. More actions are needed against China but declaring that China has broken the agreement is a good start.
Leroy42 wrote: » So he is standing up for them by refusing to stand up to China? The British has extended visas for HK residents. Has Trump done the same? Has he announced a new embassy in HK like he did in Jerusalem? He has done the very least he could have done. He is scared of China, But he hasn't a leg to stand on. How can he face Xi and tell him to act better towards the protestors when he said he was happy to shot his own people?

Harsher measures inbound for the protestors if that comes about and police get to 'brutalise' more people. Also, read a follow up tweet of the journalist that was blinded by a rubber bullet shot by police officer. Paraphrasing here, but essentially she called on people to not stop protesting, that it was the police that caused her injury, not someone amongst the protestors. A rallying cry.

It was only beginning and he was acting like it was all sorted and maybe there'd be a resurgence in the fall. It was like it was already gone. Then obviously massive issues with the police brutality with George, protests, riots, looting, and its obviously a complex problem I've no opinion on how to solve or even if it can be at this stage but he came out and gave a rant about China and just walked off. I couldn't believe he didn't reach out to the people. The lack of empathy is apparent daily, and I think a lack of empathy just doesn't work for someone in his position. You need empathy. It's not about you right now.
