Films with no talking

I am looking for a recommendation if anyone can help.

I have had enough of with current affairs tv programs, and cliched trash talk in alot of films. Im looking for any films on youtube or elsewhere where there is no talking. either completely silent or music being played.

ive done a search and all i get are charlie chaplin films from the 1920s. nothing more modern.

Reason, after a long day, need something relaxing to watch.

anyone any ideas?

Simply put, there aren't many if you're discounting the silent era. There are fewer still outside the experimental space.

Your best bet would be the Qatsi trilogy or their spiritual and formal brethren Baraka and Samsara. Non-narrative documentaries which are basically montages of images and dramatic scores reflecting on aspects of modern life.

All Is Lost is probably the closest thing a fairly mainstream film has come to being dialogue-free in recent times. Robert Redford battling for survival while stranded at sea. There's maybe a few lines of dialogue in there (I couldn't say for sure), but mostly it's just the sound of the sea.

The Tribe, as mentioned, doesn't have any spoken dialogue - instead only non-subtitled sign language. Be aware, it's a graphic and bleak film.

If you're willing to dive back a big earlier, Japanese film The Naked Island from the 1960s is a powerful example of a film told through images and sounds but no dialogue. Ditto, Jacques Tati's wonderful films from the same era (Mr Hulot's Holiday, Mon Oncle and Playtime particularly) are bordering on silent comedy, but there is some scattered dialogue here and there (frankly, you could watch them without subtitles and miss very little).

The Tati spirit lives on in Sylvian Chomet's lovely animated features, again featuring low to no dialogue.

Animation may well be your best bet for contemporary or "modern" film without dialogue. Aside from the Sylvain Chomet films johnny already mentioned, The Red Turtle is worth a watch.

There's a decent-looking list on IMDB as well, though I don't know how available some of those films might be...

I'd suggest Metropolis 1927,

There are 3 versions, the American cut,
the 1985 Giorgio Moroder scored version which he wrote and produced all the songs which are performed by Freddie Mercury, Bonnie Tyler and a slew of other artists

and the remastered version that was restored from an original tape found in Argentina a few years ago

Strictly speaking, they're not films - they can go on for ten hours and don't have a plot as such - but there's no talking and they're designed to be something relaxing to watch or have on in the background, so it fills those criteria. Typically it's just relaxing scenery, maybe with some trivia on the screen very now and again. You don't watch it through of course; you can dip in and out wherever suits.

It originated in Norway, so many are based there - the train journey from Trondheim to Bodo is an example, or there's one on a sledge trip through Lapland. There's a growing international range though, along similar lines (eg the Ghan train in Australia). I think it's fair to say that people will either see it as interesting or pointlessly boring, with not a huge amount of middle ground!

More mainstream, but was there much talking in Wall-e? I think the first half there was none, but maybe it changed in the second half.

It was the first feature-film to be directed by Luc Besson, and also features Jean Reno's first prominent role. Music for the film was composed by Éric Serra. The film was the first of many collaborations between Besson, Reno and Serra. A dark vision of post-apocalyptic survival, the film was shot in black and white and contains only two words of dialogue. It depicts a world where people have been rendered mute by some unknown incident.

Try " Ibiza the silent movie" It's more like a documentary than a film, and it goes back to ibiza 's ancient times to the modern tourist business with a great look at events in between. Can't say much more without spoiling it.

Under the skin- very strange and very good movie with scarlett johansson, saw it in Lighthouse when it came out and really loved it.

There will be blood- don't think anyone talks for first 20 mins

All is Lost - this is pretty silent from what i remember, robert redford gets into difficulty when sailing in open water, very good and unknown movie

Or go to the new yorker and listen to their literary podcasts

Or google athmospheric youtube russian or polish films - they can have beautiful cinematography - and play with the sound either on or off to
your taste - you definately win’t understand what is going or - or play music over it on mute
