My â‚¬100m BEAM scheme

Thought it deserved a thread of its own as it was taking over me beef price.

My reading so far is that the farm must reduce its nitrates per farm as opposed to reducing the nitrates per ha am i reading this correct?

Thank fcuk for that I've a pile of stores that I cant find a home for. I've 8 cows picked for culling in the back end with only 3 heifers to replace them that should cover me. My nitrogen reduction works out at about 3.5 cows.

5% reduction on total farm nitrates. I got paid on for bullocks I have sixty plus. The reference was the year we had a drought so I was finishing fast to try to keep costs low.I will not be doing the reduction

Not worth it in your situation Bass.
Getting it on 30 odd here.
Will kill more off the grass at end of summer and keep a few less in the shed over the winter. I'll buy a few extra store lambs for the extra grass at the back end

I would not put too much dependence on store lambs. Yes they have been profitable over the last few years. It takes little to imbalance a market. Lads paying 10-15 euro/ lamb extra and a 20-30c/kg less from factories can wipe out any projected margin and the BEAM money as well.

Spread less fertlizer, close some paddocks earlier leave lighter stock out longer

Log onto agfood and you will find your calculations there. It’s very straight forward to work out.

Just wondering if lads think this scheme will effect the price of forward stores this back end, Winter is the most expensive time to keep cattle so if lads were cutting back that would be the time to do it I would imagine.

Well to be fair lads are fairly thick. Just look at all the lads that filled sheds after getting rode winter 12months. Most lads are into punishment. They probably feel they have to give more money to the processor's. Lads are in mortal fear somebody else will make a bob and they will not.

Maybe with brexit negotiations starting up again that might have more of an impact than the 5%.
My plan is to try and kill a month earlier off grass this year and buy a month later.

If you are on ICBF you get a breakdown of your stock numbers. Easy enough work it out from that but yeah you are right. It would be easy enough for them to have a daily count of how you are doing. Anyone handy at excel would be able to do one up in no time I’d say

Ag food gives you where you were at start of scheme then calculates where you need to be at the end. And they will give a few updates, first update will be end of June 2020. Also as an animal goes between categories, from 0-1 Yr to 1-2 Yr, it will be hard for individuals to update themselves.

Probably the easiest way is to identify stock that will hit 30 months in July 21 and sell them in the next couple of months

Yeah there will be updates every 3 months,first one is up from 1st April,next one due on 1st July.
This figure is taking from 31st March 2019-1st April 2020,next one from 30th June 2019-1st July 2020 and so on...
ICBF probably is better template for calculating.

I know it won't suit everyone but if your under pressure you can always keep a few extra sheep and cut back on the cattle.
Sheep are not counted in the stocking rate for BEAM.

Don't think there's any extra penalties, they'll just take the money back.
There's a sliding scale of penalties
Reduce between 4.8 - 5.0% 20% penalty
Reduce between 4.6 - 4.8% 40% penalty
Reduce between 4.4 - 4.6% 60% penalty
Reduce between 4.0 - 4.4% 80% penalty
Reduce < 4.0 100% penalty

Why would there be an extension. Terms and contitions are from July 1st 2020-June 30th 2021 the virus is here it will be here for a while.

There was talk of an extension being lobbied for in various media. I guess the closure of marts earlier was why the extension was proposed. Simple enough to figure why extensions were being sought I would have thought.

The start of the destocking period is July 1st, what would an extension do change the start date. Some farmers already will have and in place any change in the date will be unfair on these. As well moving the date will be unfair on those that did not apply

AFAIK July18-June 19.
