Detailing chat

Hi I've been thinking it'd be nice to have a thread where simple questions that people don't want to create a thread for, could go. Or any chat related to detailing.

I've a question. If I've put a wax on, then a sealant. Then after a few weeks or w/e I'm thinking the shine isn't what it was. (After washing obviously) Can I apply wax on top of whatever sealant and wax is left from the first time, or do I have to remove the remaining sealant + wax first?

My autobrite lance should be here tomorrow, can't wait to use it.

There's a video on YouTube of some guy using it and a K2 Karcher adding only 100ml of Magifoam into the bottle and 3-400ml of hot water and he manages to get his car completely covered with some left over.

Im not, i couldn't care less if its thick or not as long as it works. its still not very thick even at that ratio, runs off the car. Its probably overkill alright

Well i would usually snowfoam twice so that would do 2 cars twice and thats under the recommended dosage. The foam lance is a 1 litre one. How many ml do you reckon you use.

Please tell me that's not per wash and you have a huge foam lance.

I use 4 squirts of autofoam (from the 5 litre) per wash and I can coat my car twice with it.

Bilt hamber suggest 4% pir (panel impact ratio i think). You will have to spray the lance into an empty bucket to see how much water comes out and do some maths. 4% sounds like you would only use a dribble in the lance but when i did mine ages ago i needed nearly 50% in the lance meaning 500ml product and 500 ml of water. I use 400 ml in the lance and it works great. Just as well its a 5 litre

That's the way they come. I agree though, it's off-putting when you don't see any mention of Chemical Guys on the packaging.

I ordered some Chemical Guys Green Hex Logic pads from Slims on Monday. They were delivered today but I think they've sent me some generic brand instead of Chemical Guys unless they've really changed their packaging? Can anyone here confirm?

Yeah, it arrived yesterday. I ordered on Friday afternoon and got the processed mail on Monday (got a free magic tree!) I originally contacted them on Facebook to check if they were open prior to ordering and they replied pretty much straight away so that might be a good option for getting in touch.

Was running low on some Gyeon products but didn't want to use Autopia so tried The Detailing Company in the north. £4.63 for delivery that arrived the next day. Pretty good service

I will say the difference it made is mental.
Honestly I couldn’t tell you if I had it set right. I had a nice spray on it not coming out too fast is that’s any use. I used about 350ml and then rest was warm water

It is very watery to look at on the car. This is the nature of it, but it is one of the best if not the best snow foam available.
You can try adding a bit more to your mix and see for yourself,

Good and all as Surfex HD is, I would use a dedicated carpet cleaner. Best one I've used recently is Autopia Bio Blue. I would advise going to Reflect for their version of it which is pretty much the same thing. Also get yourself a drill brush as it will make light work of it.

When done, use towels to mop out the liquid but I would advise using a wet and dry vac as you don't want to leave product/water at the bottom of the carpet pile where you can't really reach with towels.

Some hardware stores rent Rug Doctor carpet cleaning machines.

Got some CarPro Perl, have one spray bottle with 100ml product and 100ml water for tires (1:1) and another with 100ml product and 300ml water (1:3) for exterior trim.

Also got some Surfex HD, to use on the likes of tires/door shuts etc, would 1:5 be a good guide to go with? 100ml product and 500ml water?

I've been watching youtube vids and reading online articles etc on leather cleaning.

I stumbled across this guy (Darren Priest) via youtube and thought it interesting if not curious. I've linked his web page below for anyone interested but its a lot of US waffle and self professing expertise which is standard procedure over there anyway.

Essentially he is saying that most of the leather has been treated and protected so essentially the top layer is synthetic. In one video he more or less refers to it as a clear coat on top of the leather similar to the exterior paint protection. I've no idea if its true or not but it would make sense that the natural material is protected.

Anyway for all his waffle he doesn't say what happens this protective coating on a 15 year old car with 100k miles of wear and tear nor what degradation such a protection would have suffered over the time.

I have a 13 year old 100k mile perforated leather interior that needs a really good clean and nourishment when I get round to it. My initial plan was thorough clean and then treat but right or wrong I'm just wondering if after cleaning, nourishing should there be a 3rd step for better protection if the seat originally had some additional protection from the manufacturer.

Using an old bottle of Carpro reset that I got from detailing shed as a shampoo. Love how little I need to use per bucket but wondering if should buy another one or change for something better value. Was thinking of something from the Autobrite range.

If you are looking for value, then I find it hard to beat the Insta finish Maxi Suds

I have been using this with the past couple of years and am almost finished the gallon now.
Apparently it is the same product as Chemical Guys Mr. Pink
