Conservative Supreme Court judge Brett Kavanaugh voted to overrule this, and lied in his reasoning about the preexisting laws in wisconsin elections. At the same time as doing this, they also had almost every voting station closed. Milwaukee, the same Dublin in terms of population, had FIVE voting stations in total. In places like Green Bay which is about the size of (edit) all of county Galway people found themselves still with lots of people ahead of them in the voting queue as late as 11.30pm having been there for over 3 hours in freezing cold weather (Wisconsin st this time of year is colder than Ireland in winter). Another city with 72,000 people had a grand total of one single voting station fore veryoen to converge on. Imagine all of Dublin voting in just 5 stations, especially during this spread. Basically, in order to be allowed to vote, most in Wisconsin were deliberately forced to congregate in huge numbers, close together, and risk getting covid or lose their right to vote. That is what was decided, but people like notobtuse - who will otherwise transparently feign concern over states rights and democracy - had nothing to say on it. This was brought to notobtuses attention already, but they refused to address it and decided to pretend they care about democracy. Here is a post outlining other instances of the Republicans trying to curtail and undermine democracy that was put to notobtuse in response. To absolutely no surprise, they refused to respond. The decision was so unpopular that across wisconsin there were heavy swings towards the democrats, which means we will see further efforts to disenfranchise voters in that state in the next six months, and people like notobtuse are only delighted about this if they feel democracy won't work in their favour. When you are talking with the poster notobtuse, you are talking with someone who despises the very concept of democracy or the will of the people to elect officials that they feel will represent them best. This is just one of many examples of Americans who have become deeply, deeply radicalised over the course of the last 10-15 years.
