Detailing chat

Hi I've been thinking it'd be nice to have a thread where simple questions that people don't want to create a thread for, could go. Or any chat related to detailing.

I've a question. If I've put a wax on, then a sealant. Then after a few weeks or w/e I'm thinking the shine isn't what it was. (After washing obviously) Can I apply wax on top of whatever sealant and wax is left from the first time, or do I have to remove the remaining sealant + wax first?

S20 is apparently a great 1 step polish, I was advised to use a Green Hex logic pad to use with it.
On a side note, S40 is supposed to give black an awesome finish on black if you were struggling to finish the job with the S20.

I might be mad....but a clean car drives so much better doesn’t it?

Cleaned the car today, tried 3 different products on the wheels. Autopia fallout, ironx and BH wheel cleaner. All sprayed on and rinsed off. The BH seems to be the best, both the Autopia and ironx left behind some brake dust but the BH took it off no problem on the other wheel.

Think it's fair to say that Bilt Hamber are just better at everything tbh. It's rare to see somebody have anything bad to say about them.
In any comparison review their snow foam always does best.

I used Reflect auto care own fallout remover the other day on the wheels and thought it did a decent job. Followed it up with Surface X diluted down. Brought them up nicely.

Any suggestions for a bug remover ? The flies didn't really shift well off the bumper for me.

Only tried BH Auto Wheel for the first time yesterday....amazing. Also cleaned the tires with AutoGlanz Rebound, just unreal the cleaning products out today.

Soak a towel or some microfiber clothes and spread them across the flies while you are getting the washer and other gear ready,
That usually softens them.

When I’m rinsing off the BH snow foam this usually takes all the bugs off for me. I don’t use a dedicated bug remover.

Got sorted with micksgarage surprisingly with what I needed so happy days..hopefully at the wkend I can sort the inside of the car.

I've used S20 with my DAS 6 on silver, white and light gold. Very impressed. I'm new to machine polishing but did a lot of research. Was tempted by Sonax PF but ease of use seemed a S20 strength. So it proved, got outstanding results removing swirls, very easy to use, doesn't dry out and very easy to remove (don't use in sunlight). I used a Schol orange pad (medium) for two German cars and a softer pad on a Kia.

Or is there any product that can match it?
Any other wheel cleaner I’ve tried doesn’t really do the touchless job that this stuff does.

Perfect, thank you. I've ordered some today. How was the finish? Was it nice and glossy or did it require a finishing pad and finer polish?

Finished with Menz 3800 and a soft pad the first time, but to be honest the results were so good with the S20 there was no need. Try the S20 and see how it goes for you.

You might be better off getting the wheel retrimmed. My experience of dye on wheels is that it'll come off on your hands after first use and makes the wheel sticky.

Having said that, Colourlock may have a solution for you. ADBL.com I think it is.

Just thought I'd throw this up,;2l pump spray bottles for €3.50 and loads of garden hoses and connectors in Lidl if anyone is in interested or looking for bits and bobs. Just make sure its an essential shopping trip you are going on!

Opinions on clay mitt/towels as an alternative to bars, lads? I've seen more and more detailers on YouTube using these clay towels instead of bars and getting the same results in half the time. I'm still skeptical though.

I use the Farcela G3 clay mitt and have had great results with it. It's very good at its job and can be used a number of times.

However, it can cause marring so I would only use it if I'm doing a paint correction afterwards, otherwise I would stick to a clay bar. It certainly speeds up the claying process an awful lot which is great when you have the work and time of a correction ahead of you.

I haven't used clay cloths so can't say anything about them but I would assume they're the same thing as the mitt only they cover a much bigger surface area.

Looking to buy my first polisher and would like some advice before I pull the trigger.

I've been looking at the DAS6 on in2detailing and their DAS 8 Forced rotation polisher which by all accounts seems to be a knock off of the Flex VRG 3401 but at half the price of the Flex.

The DAS 8 is kind of at the max of my budget right now but if it is the better machine to get I will, is there any other polishers out there I should consider? And if not which one of the two above would you recommend?

I ordered stuff on Friday, got it delivered this morning . I would just proceed as normal through the website. I do see stock is lower on more products than usual prob due to availability.

Hi - got my snow foam bottle/lance in the post today so need a few more stuff now. I guess most you recommend the Bilt Hamber Snowfoam, so that's one. Looking for a Fall out remover, a tar remover, wheel cleaner and shampoo. A bit of reading has thrown up BH Korrosol, BH Wheel cleaner, Car Pro Tar X - does that look about right?
What shampoo is recommended please?
Also for the experts - I have a lot of trouble drying the car after washing it - it takes a massive amount of MF cloths to get it dry - in the YouTube videos it looks easily done with one or 2 towels and the damn car starts to dry up before I reach the other side.
Also - anyone tried Blok51 in NI for delivery? they are coming out cheaper than Reflect for the above stuff.

Do you have any protection on the car ? Normally takes me a few minutes and one towel to dry the car. Trying to dry an unprotected car is a bit of a pain
