Alf Tupper wrote: » Oh the show me your medals argument. Typical of you not being able to think for yourself. That argument is as lazy as it is redundant. Keane, Irwin and Whelan were world class players and mainstays of their teams and actually responsible in a lot of cases for their sides victories. John O'Shea played a bit part at most for a lot of the medals he has, often coming on as a late substitute to shore up the defence to defend a lead etc. He didn't even win his Champions League medal on the field of play. When he did play in a final in 2009 he was completely out of his depth pulled all over the place and responsible for Barcelona's second goal. Facts dear boy!

It was not Rings fault the game had not evolved to the extent it has today, and emphasis’s on fitness levels were non existent in comparison to the current era. You can only be as good as the generation you exist in. If Ring, Keane, Mackey grew up in current era they’d be the best in the land
Gardner wrote: » another stupid post. John O'Shea is the 4th most decorated Irish footballer of all time (only beaten by Roy, Keane, Denis Irwin and Ronnie Whelan all on 19 trophies) and probably never beaten by any Waterford person anytime soon. He is then compared against a player who played from 1937 to 1961 and won 11 caps for ireland and never played across the water. Like my previous post, the standard of football and the League of Ireland then was utter ****e. There is a lot more evidence of these games and i have watched many over the years on multi tv channels.

Alf Tupper wrote: » Folks you're wasting your sweetness on the desert air discussing John Keane or anything pertaining to hurling with this boyo. He probably thought you were talking about John B Keane before he googled him. If I thought it was worth the time I would tell him to seek out David Smith's wonderful biography of Waterford's greatest hurler but I fear reading isn't his forte. This bluffer's only source of info is from the lazy medium.

John Keane played intercounty hurling from 1932 to 1951. you never seen him play intercounty and id say there is very little full match coverage of him if any so you are basing your information on secondary source. any games that RTE or TG4 have showed from the 40s, 50s 60 etc you will know that the standard of hurling compared to the modern game is somewhere close to Junior C level. get a grip with John Keane :D
