Their entertainment/comedy section The Daily Edge was discontinued a few months ago and now their business section fora.ie has been shuttered. The Journal itself seems to be now desperately soliciting submissions from the public in an attempt to keep the cog wheels turning (but they won't pay you of course). The turnover of journalists seemed to be very high. There were new faces under the articles every month so I can only imagine what a hellish work culture existed in the office. I use the term "journalists" loosely of course as they most likely hired kids fresh out of college with a 2:2 in their communications studies degree. No actual journalist worth their salt would degrade themselves by signing on with a click bait site. No actual journalism seemed to take place either. They specialised in churning out listicles (top 10 crisp brands in Ireland!!!) or regurgitating press releases that popped up in their email inbox. And I won't even mention the utterly toxic comments sections that was the real bread and butter of the site... Will you miss the Journal?

Get into a never-ending back and forth with a fellow dole-lifer that nobody else will ever read. Repeat with every single article on the site. Fake twitter profile is obligatory. It wouldn't surprise me if the rumours were true and that the biggest troll accounts were run by the Journal staff to stir the pot and generate clicks.

Just like their section The Daily Edge a few years back, snowflake college literary students given a platform to ply their woe is me I am wahmen ****e on the masses.

They have a couple of decent hacks working for them. Be a shame to see it go. It really cannot be underestimated how much damage Google and Facebook have done to civil discourse, the media, and investigative journalism.
