The Restaurant Recommendation Thread

There's been a crazy number of threads recently looking for restaurant recommendations, so I'd like to start a specific thread for it. Please post below about your favourite restaurants - why you like them, what price range they are, what type of food they serve, if they have an early bird, opening hours if you know them, where they're located. If you could include a link to the website, that would be great. The more details, the better. This is not a thread to post negative reviews - there's a thread in the main Food & Drink forum for that if you like. Basically, I want this thread to be full of recommendations, not positive and negative reviews. That being said, you can disagree with a recommendation briefly if you really feel the need to, but you must have a really valid reason such as an awful experience, rather than "I don't really like the food" or "It's too expensive".

Gourmet Burger Bistro was lovely but it was incredibly cramped in there. Everyone was on top of each other and wasn't very comfortable

Son Of A Bun is nice but quite overpriced.

Have to say I never ate in the gourmet burger bistro but son of a bun is incredibly packed also.

It was never really my favourite burger place ,but my brother loved it ... Sad for everyone involved..

Had a savage takeaway from Murphy's last night. They've closed the doors now and they're serving through the window which is ideal really, very easy to keep well away from anyone else waiting.

I imagine not many places will say open to do takeaways now. It would be pretty lousy to keep staff working and at risk on minimum wage when they can get €350 a week if they're let go.

Has anybody ever tried a place called "Charcoal Grill" on justeat? Apparently they're on popes quay, but I think it might have something to do with the Indian that's down there.

They seem to serve a million different quisines.

Anyway I'm interested in their steal ciabatta.

Charcoal grill on Popes Quay is gone.
Perhaps the take away next door (rooster pil pil?) is still carrying the charcoal grill menu?

It's the place that went in to the old charcoal grill premises. For some reason still going by the name charcoal grill on just eat and deliveroo but no where else.

The Glass Curtain doing takeaway at the weekends from this weekend. Set 2 course menu different each night Fri-Sun (also veggie option but that's the same all 3 nights) €40 for dinner for 2 people (veggie cheaper). Also selling beer/wine from their menu. Details on their website. Seems you get the food mostly prepared (cold) and then there's a little bit to do yourself when you get it home to finish/heat etc. I'm going to give it a go on Saturday - loved their food when got to eat there before COVID19 came along...

Miyazaki started take away only service too Thurs-Sun a couple weeks ago I think. Specials/menu on their facebook page each day of service. Both are phone beforehand to order, pick up at set time.

KC's in Douglas are doing click & collect on their website. Select a time and they'll call you when you can come to their door to pick it up.

It's a bit manic with it being their first day back open, but the few teething problems will be sorted I'm sure.

Paddy waggon keeping an eye on things just now. There must have been 40 people between both sides of the road so regular pedestrians have no room to distance along that stretch. Why can't people say in their cars??

Yeah, saw them having to break up about about 6 lads stuck together earlier this afternoon. Dopes like.

Called it yesterday, it was never gonna be feasible unfortunately. Too many people piling up outside the store. They should look into doing deliveries only with Deliveroo.

I really feel for businesses that try to do the right thing and still do business but are let down by their stupid, stupid customers.

Burritos and blues tried and failed to do takeaway only.

As did Murphy's chipper.

But unfortunately people are too feckin stupid to queue and maintain social distancing.
Tough on businesses.

I saw another company was asking for car registration numbers and then staff were bringing food and placing it into the car boot. Maybe something like that could work.

Everything should be moving to delivery only, IMO.

Safer for restaurant/shop staff. Safer for customers. And could give work to couriers/taxi-drivers who need the money.

Apart from very rare circumstances, people should either eat at home or get delivery. A place that is open for collection only encourages people to leave their house, to get out for a bit, we should stay at home as much as possible.

I don't think I would trust a delivery person who has knocked on how many doors and delivered to loads of houses every day bringing me food to be honest. A well run pick-up service seems a safer option to me. The staff can be protected like shop staff are. As long as customers can be easily isolated from each other also, I don't really see a problem. Obviously thisis an issue for very popular restaraunts though so would not work for all places.

So people were queuing outside before they got the call? Surely those people knew their actions would lead to the place closing up again.

I doubt they will come up with a solution. The crowds they attract are just too big and even bigger now that everybody's at home. Groups of youths go there just for something to do on top of it.

Im sure they evaluated the logistics of a delivery service many times and came to the conclusion it wouldn't work for some reason or another.

That tiny little hut they have wouldn't make it a very smooth operation.

A second premises would have quelled those long ques years ago. Maybe this situation will give them the imputes to open up another shop. If Dino's can have multiple units , why can't KCs have at least two..

I don't know if this is related to it but I know there was a massive delay with getting the orders out on time or at least friend of my brother ordered for around 5 and didn't get it till 7. So maybe that was why people were hanging around.

Dunno - will take away somewhat from what is "KC's in Douglas" if you know what I mean. Also, are they non-profit (or on those lines) ? I thought they were a non-profit crowd of some description. Religion is in my head for some reason.....

Once you go into having multiple outlets, even two, one is going into having a whole different level of management and a different financial model. Many owners wouldn't want to go that way.
