Detailing chat

Hi I've been thinking it'd be nice to have a thread where simple questions that people don't want to create a thread for, could go. Or any chat related to detailing.

I've a question. If I've put a wax on, then a sealant. Then after a few weeks or w/e I'm thinking the shine isn't what it was. (After washing obviously) Can I apply wax on top of whatever sealant and wax is left from the first time, or do I have to remove the remaining sealant + wax first?

I use the same and I find them excellent. I did one vehicle last weekend with this combo and have another lined up to do this weekend.

However on PPE, I always use nitrile gloves to protect the car from grease from my fingers mainly. As for eye protection, I wear my glasses (I'm half blind without them) but I don't bother with safety glasses.

As for masks, most hardware store masks are designed for large dust particles, not chemicals and aerosols. For chemical protection, you'd need the likes of an FFP3 respirator with the proper filters attached. The products I'm using don't have specific PPE mentioned and I deploy them in the open and never aim them towards myself. Then a mask is overkill. I'm basing this off my experience of lab safety and dealing with chemicals that generally had large Skull & Bones labels on them!

Correct. I should have mentioned that with the Karcher models I also used the accompanying patio T-Racer attachment which has a bar with a high pressure nozzle at each end which spins around.

For best results, and to make life easier, on concrete you need to use a dirtkiller (Kranzle) type lance or a floor cleaning attachment instead of a standard lance. If you have one of those, an electric PW will work better than a petrol without - outside of commercial models.

Having said that though, a petrol one would be more maneuverable. No extension cables, power outlets etc. to annoy you.

I'm not set on petrol I was just swaying seeing some results for cleaning compared to what I was getting with the nilfisk, granted it wasn't that powerful so as you said electric will probably suit fine ifs just which model

So I replaced the O rings, start stop valve and microswitch on my nilfisk and its still acting the maggot so may as well look at a new one.

I was looking in the direction of petrol as I want ability for cleaning heavy crap off concrete and paving, but still use it on the car.

I was recommended the Kranzle 1152TST as the man for the job that will happily do both although its pricey, anyone else got an alternative or what they would buy for what I need it for?

Need a little help lads. I was doing the interior of the car , I didn't have usual interiors cleaner and used what I could find in the petrol station...pure crap it left some residue and stains on the cockpit area. I was thinking of steam cleaning it with the wife's clothes steam cleaner. What do ye think recommend?

I went through some cleaning stuff and found this leather cleaner that I picked up at some show or other. Its supposed to foam up in teh other bottle with water for use.

Just thought I'd ask here to see if anyone had any opinion on seeing the issues on the other thread. One car is dark navy leather and its fairly clean but could do with a treatment to keep it nice and supple. The other is black perforated leather. That needs a really good clean and rejuvenation.

So is this stuff any good or for the bin?

I like both Gtechniq and BH foams but there is a difference between the two.

The Gtechniq foam empties from the lance quickly enough and sticks to the car very well. Dwell time is high.

The Autofoam takes an absolute age to empty from the lance but doesn't stick to the car due to the way it works.

I have dealt with Imran over on In2Detailing
I bought 2 polishers and kits from him before Christmas, I haven't used mine yet, but my son has used his and has no complaints. The one in the link is an updated version of mine.
Imran is a pure gent to deal with.
900Watt so will have plenty of power.
I got some Hex Logic pads and Scholl S20 polish.
Got extra 3.5" backing plate's and smaller pads to suit for tighter areas.

Wailin, don’t be surprised if they reappear. Super resin polish has just covered them but washing the car will eventually remove it and they’ll come back. The only way to get rid is to machine polish or even do it by hand with a cutting compound like menzerna fg400 or chemical guys v36.

Spent yesterday doing the interior of the car,done a deep clean and extraction on the carpet with Valet Pro carpet cleaner,took the front seats out. Used Geyon leather cleaner on the seats, kind of ashamed the amount of dirt that came off them. Cleaned the plastics with reflect auto car apc and dressed with CG VRP. Ideal weather for leaving the carpet dry out

Since you have a bike I would suggest you invest in a Metro Blaster Sidekick. It's made for blasting water from hard to reach areas and areas that would be impossible to reach with a cloth.
