With the recent addition of the Off-topic discussion thread, I am closing the current McGregor thread so that chat going forward can be located in the correct threads. This thread is for MMA related discussion only - any other gossip/showbiz type stories are to be discussed in the off topic thread.

Please make sure to review the updated charter before posting - there have been some amendments made in light of these changes and in posting here you are at all times expected to follow those rules and guidelines.

As before there is a strict rule on no chat to be had here about legal issues or court cases as per the charter - this is a strict no go regardless of where it has or hasn't been posted in the media it is not allowed on boards.ie at all. This is not up for debate and it has been said multiple times now.

This fight should have been cancelled weeks ago when the pandemic got worse, but Dana gonna Dana. Man really is a scumbag.

The only thing Khabib is ducking is Covid-19, he's not afraid of Tony.
Neither Khabib or Tony are to blame for this attempt not going ahead.

It's fairly easy extrapolate. The flu has a 0.1% mortality rate and had ~60k deaths.

It's overly simplistic, but if the same number had been infected with Covid-19 (and lets remember it also has a higher R0 and longer incubation time than flu), with a CFR anywhere between 1% and 3.4%, it would produce 600k - ~2 million deaths.

But OP will still think "convenient excuse / I wants fights" etc.

People have tested positive with no symptoms so its highly likely that people have it and never get tested, so the exact mortality rate will be extremely difficult to calculate. Khabib and his team have obviously looked into this too and have made the decision that the mortality rate of fighting Tony is much higher than the mortality rate of COVID so they are playing it safe.

Definitely not dangerous enough for a young healthy fighter to refuse to fight out of fear of it.

The risk that Khabib will die is tiny, but the risk that he spreads it isn’t much higher. There’s also the risk of the American healthcare system :pac:.

Have car accidents caused half of the world to stay in their homes unless it's for essential travel, almost all sports to be cancelled, schools to be shut ? This is unprecedented times in living memory - criticising Khabib for following advice given by health professionals seems wrong to me.

Well Khabib did say in an interview yesterday he would definitely fight Tony on April 18th if given a location, nothing then about no, I'm staying isolated as per advice from health professionals. Then in another part of the interview when put on the spot about the private plane suggestion and if dana called tomorrow he kind of backtracked and seemed unsure. He just doesn't want to fight Tony. Pretty sure he wants to cash in on another mcgregor payday before fighting Tony, that was mentioned in the interview as well, if this fight doesn't happen, is there a chance he fights mcgregor again before Tony and Khabib didn't say no then started trash talking Conor.
