Yup. A tweet in isolation is a tweet. Provide a lengthy rebuttal and it is opened up to an exponentially wider audience (this is also why I rarely reply to Thomond).

Cosgrave's PR model thrives on misinformation and people giving it oxygen. It's quite clearly deliberate and a tactic to raise his own profile. The nurses tweet was reprehensible. I also saw a single retweet of a tragic case of a disabled person dying amongst a rake of tweets criticising the Irish government and response. I clicked it and scrolled down through the tweet of the person (a relative of the deceased) and they're in another country. The tweet was in relation to the health system elsewhere. Cosgrave purposely drops it in to misrepresent the situation in Ireland.

And people respond, retweet and believe.

I think the number of (alleged) journalists just throwing out unfounded claims is pretty worrying. Phillip Boucher-Hayes amongst others recently was claiming there was a swarm of FG twitter bots about the place for example. Someone actually did an analysis of replies to Simon Harris' tweets and found zero evidence of it, and Twitter themselves then followed up by saying there is zero evidence of suspicious activity. Seems enormously irresponsible to me.

"Owning" a clown still gives a clown oxygen. There's no point replying to someone who isn't willing to listen. He'll just delete tweets, pretend the exchange never happened and move on to the next faux outrage. Rinse and repeat.

It's a great thread but I can't help feeling it's just feeding someone who should be completely ignored.

A friend of mines mother is in a nursing home. So far zero cases in this one. But he reckons if one staff member contracts covid19 asymptomatically it could wipe out 50% of the residents in no time as most are over 90.

We really need to see the day by day positive cases against the number of tests analysed in order to understand. 400 could be 20% Or 10% or 5%

They could have 25 positive cases tomorrow but only analysed 100 swabs because they ran out of reagent.

This is happening here too! It is basically the only thing that can not be found on the shelves. I wanted to bake a cake for my gf's birthday and ended up having to make do with a cheesecake. A Baileys cheesecake. And I drank the rest of the Baileys.

I've done a rake of baking with the kids over the past 10 days. I've a few kilos of flour in the press so ok but I'll definitely have to top up now shortly. Aside from the fact that you can stuff your face, it's a very handy way to keep the kids busy for 1-2 hours.

I'd imagine there are a hell of a lot of parents doing similarly.

Panic buying, particularly for making bread, and also it seems like absolutely everyone is baking stuff at the moment be it out of boredom or to avoid shopping

The two latter. There was a segment on the news here about how the mills had doubled production but were still struggling to keep up with demand, just about starting to show back up on shelves now. It's very long shelf life and can be used to make an absolute staple so suppose people just started hoarding it.

I have left the supermarket before where the tills were very busy and I'd have been waiting at least 10 minutes to get served. Just left the trolley and fcuked off (I know it was a shìtty thing to do).
Genuinely I will not queue if it takes more than a minute or 2.
It drives my missus demented but that's what I do.
I will leave a bar if it's too busy and I'd have to wait to be served. I never drink pints at a match because there'll be a queue. When we went to Eurodisney I went on very little because I wouldn't stand for 15 or 20 minutes to go on anything....(actually started raining on the 2nd day and that was brilliant because everyone went inside and there were next to no people queueing for the rides).
Lads in work laugh at me if we go to the shop and there's a crowd waiting at the deli...back out...I'm gone.
I just hate standing, waiting for anything...drives me demented.
