I think there's a suspicion from the left that UBI would be used as a substitute for government services like healthcare or social security.
I believe Friedman floated the idea on occasion, and suggested just such a motivation - if there is a criticism of a free market capitalist system that it fails when people can't access it (and people suffer as a result), give them a baseline amount of income so that they will always be able to do so.

CureVac has not received from the US government or related entities an offer before, during and since the Task Force meeting in the White House on March 2.

Where's the wriggle room left out compared to a sweeping denial? Or if that's not a sweeping denial, what is?

Can some-one refresh my memory of what the date was when Dan appeared with the other Co CEO's and Don Trump at the White House presentation: was it Friday last, or earlier or later given the reported timeline of Dan's departure from CureVac?

I'm lost here- why would the company deny this?? are you suggesting the CEO had gone rogue and was going to the US to do this?? Surely with the CEO gone and with the huge financial support from Germany and the EU the company would have no reason to cover this up.

Also did the original story not come from some random German minister. Surely it would have been worthwhile checking with the actual company.

An 'offer' would be a formal offer in that case. That would come quite late in a deal negotiation.
Since a CEO is normally charged with maximising the value of a co, whilst the morality would be very questionable, but the rules of capitalism, the CEO would technically, be correct.

The way CureVac's response to the Die Welt story is worded makes it plain there was no official offer from the Co to the US Admin. Co's keep very tight grips on their merchandise and copyrights. The market effect of internal board rows on policy and trade would be costly.

The departure date of Dan Mechinella from CureVac versus his appearance on Friday 13th at the White House media briefing as CureVac CEO may be important in reference to the solidity of the Die Welt report. The link below dated today puts his departure from CureVac around 2 weeks ago followed days later by the Co's founder taking over the CEO's position.

This link dated today puts Dan's departure from CureVac as 2 weeks AGO, after the 02 March meeting but before the 13th March meeting at which Don intro'd him as CEO CureVac. Of course Don may have made a mistake amongst the other intro's of the US CEO's and assumed Dan was a CureVac CEO due to him being at the meeting on the 13th. If Dan was not a CureVac CEO at German Co level or US subsidiary Co level, what was he doing at the White House on the 13th as he didn't correct any mistake or misidentification then? BTW, I'm not the author of the "medical leave as plot thickens" wording in the link.

If anyone thinks trump himself didn't blurt out the takeover offer in the White House meetings they need their heads examined. He has form and alot of it in this regard. Saying stupid stuff spending other people's money . Yes its not formalised but if you think he didn't seriously consider and verbalised the offer then you haven't been watching his presidency.

Dana Bash has it from WH staff that a major reason for Trump's turn in Covid -19 is that he hasn't the time to listen to, conservative media, or talk to his regular contacts.
