Misrepresented when buying a caravan

Hi. I bought a caravan 2 to 3 weeks ago . I was told by the seller that there was no damp issues . And there appeared none at the time ( he had a heater on). When I got it home it became evident that was not the case and significant work would be required to make it watertight. The information I was given was false and misrepresented. Therefore if he tells me I have no rights , I presume I do using this argument .

He said, you said - not worth the paper it's written on.

Sellers will tell you all sorts of things you want to hear. It's up to the buyer to be vigilant and do their own checks before buying. With buying privately it's a case of buyer beware unfortunately.

Your problem is even if you could take him to court can you prove that he has the technical skills to diagnose issues with the caravan? The time for get someone to inspect it was pre sale.

I’m screwed basically. I’m 41 and it’s the first tome I’ve been shafted so I guess I’m nit doin too bad....

Pretty much, sorry to hear.
Get it repaired by a specialist and put it down to experience.
When you're off on the holidays in it this will be a faint memory.

Would you not have guessed with the heater going etc that something might be up?

Of course people will tell you what you want to hear

How did they hide any signs of dampness with a heater? Did you not see staining or discolouration? Warping?

No smell or discolouration ... yes some pimples near the front. Specialist told me 5k to take off and replace awning rails/rail that joins wall and roof on outside..., seems fierce high .

Think about doing it yourself. Plenty of others have and there are youtube videos showing how. You will probably need to strip it back inside as well and replace timbers.

The seller showed the OP the caravan with a heater on and told him that there was no damp issues.

I think we all know what will happen if the OP confronts him. His response will be somewhere between 'caveat emptor' and PFO. It won't involve a refund.

Just put it behind you and repair or get it repaired.. it is very easy to be wise in hindsight.
We have all been shafted at some stage. Think of it as a learning experience.
Once you have it sorted you will forget about the disappointment and start to enjoy it.
