FG are unlikely to make Enda's mate a senator again, sure he's done his bit at this stage.
God love them, the general public have put them in a terrible position. So many rejected former TD's looking for a seat, but what about the previous lot?

It's time for another election. That should appease all sides of the endless arguments here.

SF get to run 2nd and 3rd candidates in constituencies, with a view to getting close to an overall majority. The formation of a Government will then be made up of SF and a few independents. We then get to see them implement their policies: rent freezes, cutting USC for low earners, getting rid of property tax, getting rid of Irish Water, a dramatic increase in investment in health care. May God help us all if you work for a small business or are self-employed.

FG will go back to the electorate with a message of financial prudence, balanced budgets, fiscal realities, and long-term Keynesian investments in infrastructure.

FF will flounder in the middle, trying to be all things to all people.

Another election would a good solution. Nobody would have to listen to FG moan about the people voting for change, and not wanting them anymore (God love them), they would have to accept it this time. It could very likely go in their favour.
It is possible that they could hide away and not accept it, or stand on the sidelines shouting again.... :rolleyes:
SF realistically need only fill half or a quarter of their campaign promises, if they were to do well in a re-election, and they still look better than FG.
FG will go back to the electorate, and the electorate will remember them cowarding away from the any challenges, their quangos, privatisation of everything, their arrogance, their failure to make any important decisions, their overspending etc..
Soc Dems will probably gain a few seats.
FF will possibly even improve on the back of it.
One thing is certain, FG seem to have no grasp on the reality of how they are perceived at the moment by a massive portion of the population, and there is probably only a small handful responsible for that.
Things can only get better...

FG couldn't get an overall majority in 2011 after the financial meltdown FF and the greens left behind (back when this was still a two party state), so I think it might be wishful thinking that the shinners will achieve one just because there's been a 3 - way tie in early 2020.

FG and FF should stop the play fighting and either coalesce together, neither of them will cherish another election.

Part of the so-called "play fighting" is the timescale required for such negotiations and the fact that we are barely two weeks on from an election. It's like attempting to join the same poles of two magnets together, some forces need to be overcome. The media doesn't help with its almost daily soundbyte or opinion piece on lack of progress, which serves to give the largely ignorant and impatient public the impression they are all stalling.

Terrible conundrum for them to be in.

Senate election is not really representative of any demographic in the country and has a tiny electorate. There are many who get elected who would never get into the Big House.

So how did they calculate this?

Did homeless people sign a form saying they were going to family? Did they have to pass through a sensor or something?

FG have stated they are happy to go into opposition as the electorate has spoke.

This poll just reinforces their stance.

There is no appetite for FG in government.

So another election won't bother them.

Can't speak for the party, but I'd imagine what bothers them is the continued campaigns against them that have nothing to do with policy.
But I'd say they are secretly smiling now...the GC can't seem to scare away the vote. +10% since the election?
