DOJ Alumni wrote: We welcome Attorney General Barr’s belated acknowledgment that the DOJ’s law enforcement decisions must be independent of politics; that it is wrong for the President to interfere in specific enforcement matters, either to punish his opponents or to help his friends; and that the President’s public comments on DOJ matters have gravely damaged the Department’s credibility. But Mr. Barr’s actions in doing the President’s personal bidding unfortunately speak louder than his words. Those actions, and the damage they have done to the Department of Justice’s reputation for integrity and the rule of law, require Mr. Barr to resign. But because we have little expectation he will do so, it falls to the Department’s career officials to take appropriate action to uphold their oaths of office and defend nonpartisan, apolitical justice.

You can put it down to a lack of quality Democratic candidates or the actual progress Trump has made (be it of his own merit or not). He's definitely sorted out the issues which matter to a lot of people in the constituencies which voted him in last time, and I think a lot of people will be swaying in his favor this time around as the alternate candidates are terrible and Trump hasn't started a war yet as feared, so he's obviously not as bad as a lot of people made him out to be. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing another term, he's made things interesting and has solved tensions with NK and honestly, some might disagree, but I think he handled the Iran situation better than Obama would have - In that he has stopped letting them walk all over other countries in that area and has perhaps set up lines of communication for a new potential nuclear deal which will serve America better.

The Guardian wrote: conservative administrations have tried to tilt the electoral process against left-leaning social groups such as the young, the transient and recent immigrants. Registering to vote and voting itself have been made more difficult, with more documents required, despite little evidence of electoral fraud. Conservative parties retain their legendary will to win, but winning seems a greater and greater strain, and is being achieved by less and less inspiring means. “What does it say about us as Conservatives,” asks Cooper, “if our only hope for the next generation of voters is that they don’t vote?”
Leroy42 wrote: » Has he made things better? In the short term, yes I think that maybe he has, but it is obvious to anyone that Trump is leading the US to a far worse place. Debt is spiralling, he has taken an axe to the tax receipts. He has created tensions with China, EU, Mexico, Canada well everyone really. And whilst it may appear that there is no cost to that, there will come a time when the US needs allies, as they have in the past. He has crippled regulations, with which will, and we know as we already saw the effects of not having the regulations, have bad effects on the environment in things like water cleanliness etc. He is doing very little to deal with the massive inequalities within the US. He has, if anything, put education back. He has done nothing on the cost of education or student debt. He has done nothing to help with the massive issue of medical costs and the lack of coverage that so many people suffer. He has done nothing to combat the massive issue of gun violence and deaths. He has done nothing to increase voter participation. He has done nothing to reduce foreign interference. He has done nothing to curb the corruption in politics, in fact he has demanded loyalty and given jobs and endorsements on the basis of who supports him, that is very much corruption. He has done nothing to try to refocus on the US on the new technologies, such as solar and other green energies. He is doing nothing to reduce the US dependance on fossil fuels, he is happy to lounge in the feeling that the US has enough reserves. He has done nothing to advance minority rights, women's rights, move the debate on abortion, LGBT rights and lots of other issues. The tensions with the NK are entirely down to NK, he has nothing to do with it. They got their bomb, and got Trump to legitimise them. What did Trump do to stop them doing anything? It was a policy of the US that NK would never be allowed have the bomb, he was the POTUS that when it actually happened he did nothing at all, well except invite them for a press conference. Trump is a short term fixer, like most con men. He will make you think things are better, when in fact it is you paying for it all and the cost far exceeds what you were promised.
