Detailing chat

Hi I've been thinking it'd be nice to have a thread where simple questions that people don't want to create a thread for, could go. Or any chat related to detailing.

I've a question. If I've put a wax on, then a sealant. Then after a few weeks or w/e I'm thinking the shine isn't what it was. (After washing obviously) Can I apply wax on top of whatever sealant and wax is left from the first time, or do I have to remove the remaining sealant + wax first?

Tar X is what I've used and you can see the tar actually run off the surface.

I usually snow foam, jet wash all around and under, tar remover and apply a second or third time if needed but do not let it dry or linger on plastics, rinse, wash 2bm, clay, wash also don't forget you can use all purpose cleaner to help remove the stubborn bits and oils etc after a clay. Wash again and add you wax or protection etc.

I’ve been looking into upgrading my car pressure washer to the spec of the e145 nilfisk or the K5, however our US friends appear to have Sun Joe washers at the top of every best-buy list, especially this SPX-4001, which is sold in UK electrical spec on amazon for £155, versus £260 and £280 for the other two.

Yeah and use all purpose cleaner to get all oils etc off after claying.

On second look, while it’s a great deal, it’s a universal motor, not an induction one

Yes, I dilute it down.
Normally 10/1 with water.
I also use around 10/1 dilution in a spare bottle to flush my snowfoam lance when finished using it, ( just a 30 second or so blast to flush it out )
When flushing it out I normally spray under the arches to double up on its purpose:D

I use it on my Tyres~ Under arches etc. Dash~door panels~Pedals etc.

Never had an issue from it.

As I get a few more bits for cleaning the car, I'm looking into snow foaming.

Have a small Makita HW101 pressure washer, there's no specific fitting for this brand is there? I have had a look online but not bringing Makita exclusively up, I have tried to find if its the same attachment as any other brands but found nothing.

Its looking like a K2 purchase ahead tho.

I normally use Reflect Auto Care for Bilt Hamber prodcuts but they don't stock it.

Hi folks. I'm looking at upgrading my DA in the coming weeks. I currently have an old kestrel da. My budget won't stretch to a flex or a rupes but looking at the autopia website I'm interested in the Das6 Pro plus and the liquid elements t4000. They both look like very capable machines from the specs listed. Looking at the price is there any particular reason why the LQ is over 20 quid dearer than the Das? Any recommendations?? I'm only a weekend warrior but I'm relatively experienced with compounds, pads, polishes, speeds etc.

The following seems ok?:
1) snow foam
2) powerwash
3) two bucket wash
4) powerwash
5) clay
8) dry
9) apply polymer. Spray on applicator, do smaller sections, buff off with microfiber as it haze's

What I'm not sure about is after claying. Can I go straight to dry or do I need to two bucket wash again and then dry?

I didn't bother claying mine as it felt quite good.
Sometimes if you are claying you can mar the paint.
This may polish off by hand or may need machine polishing off.

Maybe use a clay cloth/mitt?
I haven't used one so have no experience with one.
I used Bilt Hamber cleanser fluid on mine prior to PNS.

A couple of pointers on PNS

1)
I used a foam applicator and it is so grabby I dropped a couple of them.
I switched to MF applicator and it felt better.

2)
I did 1/4 panel at a time with PNS,
bonnet x 4 sections
roof x 4 sections.
etc,
Smaller panels like wings etc x2 sections.

Anyhow,
Don't let it haze as it can be difficult to remove.
Literally spread and buff.
Go over the whole car after with a second buffing to ensure all ir removed.
Then a light mist of BSD and you are done.

Recently bought a pro plus. Autopia have 2 different ones. The one i have is the 1000w motor with the black backing plate . Very impressed with the quality, runs fairly smooth with low vibration. Didn't make as much noise as i expected. Has plenty of power and doesn't bog down easily. Arms and shoulders can get a bit sore if doing long sets on vertical panels but thats to be expected. Comes with a 6 inch backing plate as well as a 5. Have only used the 5 inch and will be sticking to it. Dont have anything to compare it to but very happy with it.

Used a das6 pro plus for a good while but don't use it anymore after switching to a forced rotation and rotary. Much prefer the forced rotation over the das6. The likes of a vertool forced rotation isnt that much more expensive than a das6 pro plus

Any recommendations for wheel brushes that won't break the bank ? Not keen on spending 60 euro on wheel woolies.

Seen these on D&D but not sure what they'd be like.

I've never ordered from Slims so i Don't know what their shipping times are like. Usually takes about 4 days from BH and no you don't need a VAT number at all. It's a normal site like D&D and Slims.

Along with its bigger and smaller versions. I have the smaller one that I use for wheel cleaning and I find it very good quality. Other cheaper brushes have died or rusted but not this. Made in the US too.
