With the recent addition of the Off-topic discussion thread, I am closing the current McGregor thread so that chat going forward can be located in the correct threads. This thread is for MMA related discussion only - any other gossip/showbiz type stories are to be discussed in the off topic thread.

Please make sure to review the updated charter before posting - there have been some amendments made in light of these changes and in posting here you are at all times expected to follow those rules and guidelines.

As before there is a strict rule on no chat to be had here about legal issues or court cases as per the charter - this is a strict no go regardless of where it has or hasn't been posted in the media it is not allowed on boards.ie at all. This is not up for debate and it has been said multiple times now.

Embedded showed up there the sort of absolute ****e high profile fighters have to deal with. Live on camera (ESPN, I think) being asked waffle over whether he fancied LSU or Clemson for the college football national title game. WTF does that have to do with McGregor, add to the audience's viewing experience etc

You would have to wonder what would happen if McGregor lost this fight .

I know his team and himself are saying all the right things about him being in best shape and best mentally he has ever been. But he hasn’t fought in so long and Cowboy is crafty . If he got knocked out you would have to wonder what that would do to him. Would he ever recover from it .

Find it a bit strange all this 170 talk mentioning Usman and Colby when the fights he had against an average Diaz at 170 he got choked out and arguably lost the rematch . I hope he really has gone to another level and maybe he wasn’t really committed back then but get the feeling these may be things he has mentally used as an excuse for not really being as good as he thought he was.

Have a strange feeling about the McGregor situation ,something seems off about the whole thing .

Just watched that NFL interview, very cringey. Conor amazed that NFL teams are named after animals, he's trying a bit too hard, I supposed if he wants to be better it's a case of I think therefor I am.

I find his wit doesn't roll off the tongue as easily, he's nervous, maybe not for the fight but i think he;s very aware of how he's being perceived now.

roll on Saturday, I;m dying to see this magic he's going to create!! hands behind the back stuff as per Alvarez would just about do it i think!

Watching his finishes his reach advantage is obviously key. Along with that his poise with ground and pound is odd to see, he doesn't dive in and punch down, he'll hammer fist from a standing or kneeling position so he's hitting the head from the side instead of brutal-looking face pummelling.
A few years ago his power probably wouldn't have bothered Cowboy, who knows now though?

You'd imagine Cowboy would try take it to the ground but he has said he wants to see which wins; his foot, or McGregor's left.

Ordinarily you'd assume it's a throwaway comment, but with Cowboy, he's certainly the type to do exactly that.

I will be amazed if he makes it out of the 1st round. He doesn't have huge power in his fists from any fight i have ever seen him in and imo if he's relying on a kick to Connors head to ko him then he is in trouble!

The only way Connor loses this fight is if he suffers with ring rust once he gets in there and he is not quiet at the level as before! Then Cowboy somehow takes him down and submits him! Other then that i see no way for Cowboy to win. Massively over rated and he will walk into Connors fists and hand Connor the ko on a plate. Far too stiff in his movement, Doesn't possess enough power and gets hit way too often!

Honestly can see this being McGregor v Aldo all over again!

If anything, the second fight showed that he just didn't use the correct strategy in the first. He took his time and did what he had to do to win. Fair enough it was close-ish, but he still won.

Cerrone was limping in latest embedded. It was fairly evident at the start of the episode as he was walking through the car park

Yeah the limp disappears after a few seconds.

Freemont Street is fantastic, one of the highlights of a trip to Vegas. It's 'old' Las Vegas and is a much cheaper night out with lots of small casinos and cool bars.

No sane person, who understands how fights are scored, makes are case for McGregor losing.
Yet here we 3+ years later, and it's still quoted before every fight..

The scores were close, 1 round it in.
But it wasn't remotely close to going the other way. Most rounds were obviously one sided. If any one looked like it might of went the other way, it was the 5th which was a Diaz round.

What a ridiculous thing to say. I honestly can't believe how little respect Cowboy is getting from some people. He holds records in the whole history of the UFC (not just his weight class) for wins and wins by KO. He has really only every lost to some of the very best fighters in the UFC.

Exactly, watch it with rogan on Mute and mcgregor is clear winner (i did this last week (again)), even in the clinch diaz is slapping and Conor makes the better connection against the fence but Joe's shouting gives diaz the edge.

Even the end of the second Goldberg says 1-1 which again was down to Rogan shouting when diaz does anything yet when Conor drops him he doesn't get excited a bit

It's a long time since he's added to his records bar appearances, I'm sure he has the records when it comes to "most head punched 'in ufc,' most broken noses', " most cat scanned Fighter " he's a bum.

More nonsense

November 2018 he beat Mike Perry by Sub (12-3)
January 2019 he beat Alexander Hernandez by KO (10-1)
May 2019 he beat Al Iaquinta by UD (14-4)

Yes he's on a 2 loss skid against Tony Ferguson due to Doctor stoppage for an eye injury and he was KO'd by Justin Gaethje.

But yeah, that's what classes as a bum on some people eyes!

Apart from appearances, in 2019 he added to;
Most Wins, Most Finishes, Most Knockdowns, Most bonuses

Which is all the records he holds.
