I've heard they have 15 open vacancies for business stream so that explains why they're moving so quick. Ive been called for clearance, low teens

What range is your order of merit,? I've heard of someone with order of merit of between 15-20 going through clearance

I'm top 10 in the general stream and haven't heard anything. Someone in a different thread said that, as of a phone call to PAS on Monday 3rd Dec, they hadn't started pulling from the general stream. I'm thinking it might be after Christmas at this stage.

They are the same thing. Being number 7 on the final order of merit is the same as being 7th on the panel.

I imagine the Garda clearance and reference checks are just for new entrants to the civil service. There is a mixture of existing civil servants and new entrants on the panel. PAS probably getting the new entrants cleared before Xmas to begin placing the whole panel in order in the new year. People need not worry, if you are on the panel you will get a job in 2020!

I think it can be any Department! No specific ones were mentioned. Can I ask what OOM you are? Thanks!

Hi Guys,
Maybe someone might be in the know. I applied for the AO Revenue 2019 position. However, my Degree is an Honours Business Degree. I did accounting modules but didn't specialise in this. I now work as an accountant in a small practice and currently sitting my CAP 2's after passing all CAP 1's so I do have a couple of years experience working in accountancy. I'm also on a training contract. This job would really interest me but :

1. Would my degree be deemed suitable for Audit & Compliance role, if anyone has any experience with this.

2. Anyone have any experience breaking a training contract to change job.

Just to update. I was low teens OOM in the business AO stream, and I have gone through clearance and been assigned to a specific department with a confirmed start date in early Spring. I believe a lot of the AOsin this stream typically go to dept finance, but I've been assigned to another department

Is it similar enough to the EO interview?

And.. the presentation... is it as daunting as it sounds?

Interview is similar enough to the EO, you have three interviewers and it is very much competency based. It is a bit longer time wise (around 45 mins) so they go a bit deeper into your competencies but no surprise questions or trying to catch you out.

The presentation seems daunting but I found the experience quite enjoyable as there is really no wrong option or choice. I presume the presentation will be the same format with reading a number of different documents which concern different sides of an argument, and you chose a course of action based on the documents. For presenting to the examiners I think it is important to note that with the time limits that they know it won't be a perfect analysis but they are looking for you to show that you have considered the different arguments and can support your choice. You can't do any preparation for it before the day so just try to relax going into and focus on analysing the documents. When you know your arguments the presentation isn't scary as you have the notes and have the information at hand.

I couldn't have put it any better than this myself. Fair play. Stick to answering the competencies with decent answers that hit the target.

The presentation is straightforward. Read the information. Pick an option and argue your reasons for your choice. Stick to your guns even if they try and pick holes in your choice in the room. Show them you can weigh up the information, make an informed decision and argue your corner.
