The Restaurant Recommendation Thread

There's been a crazy number of threads recently looking for restaurant recommendations, so I'd like to start a specific thread for it. Please post below about your favourite restaurants - why you like them, what price range they are, what type of food they serve, if they have an early bird, opening hours if you know them, where they're located. If you could include a link to the website, that would be great. The more details, the better. This is not a thread to post negative reviews - there's a thread in the main Food & Drink forum for that if you like. Basically, I want this thread to be full of recommendations, not positive and negative reviews. That being said, you can disagree with a recommendation briefly if you really feel the need to, but you must have a really valid reason such as an awful experience, rather than "I don't really like the food" or "It's too expensive".

It was a six o clock booking but made a few weeks previous.
I really loved it.
Pretty sure I only ever had lunch there before - probably about 10 or 12 years ago.

Great value wine list, too.

I had a less than pleasant experience in Son of a Bun this week. My burger was really greasy and sloppily put together and I had a dodgy tummy after it - I had to go to bed for an hour after I got home.
I'm not saying I had food poisoning or anything like that (just wanted to make that clear!!) but I was quite unwell, very bloated and out of whack for a day or two after it.
I've eaten there numerous times before, though none recent, and have never had that kind of reaction. It would put me off trying it again for sure.

Hardly surprising given that they gave several of their customers a particularly nasty, potentially fatal, form of food poisoning not so long ago. No doubt they'd laugh, joke and lie about it, same as that time. Might be worth reporting it to the Food Safety Authority - leopards don't change their spots too easily.....

I have professional experience in this area, and I wouldn't step inside their door.

For me sometimes it's the bun that causes the bloating. I often eat half the bun or go nude. I accept what you say about the meat itself. There's no excuse.
O'Crualaois do a beautiful street food steak burger in Balllincollig at lunch time for €3.50. It's really yum and lovely floury bap.

A lot of Irish people eat a lot and expect a side of potatoes and vegetables. If you are a big eater, you will want a side.
If I can eat three courses, a big eater would be hungry.
The courses are tidy, not tiny.

Ate in the Raven last night. Second time since they reopened. Its bar food, nothing too fancy, but it's very tasty. Staff were lovely too. Big group of us and the bar was rammed for Christmas but they went out of their way to accommodate everything we asked for.

I had the katsu chicken burger and it was really good. Lots of halloumi burgers and fish and chips in our group too, all positive reviews too.

I was there last night too! My first time there since it’s changed. Very nice and you are right the staff are lovely

Ate in cornstore last night. Lovely as always. Great service and food is lovely. It’s a great atmosphere there too. I always have good things to say about it tbh

This is not true.
E coli was detected on staff members and on the premises. No one got sick.
They closed for retraining and physical alterations.

Please check your facts before saying a restaurant gave people dangerous food poisoning.
If you work in this field, you should know better.

Check your own facts buddy. The restaurant was investigated after eight customers contracted E. coli O157:H7, an infection so serious (due to the possibility of haemolytic uraemic syndrome) it's required to be notified to the authorities immediately if diagnosed. I can also tell you that this only happens after a litany of management failures. It was during this investigation that staff were found with evidence of faeces on their hands, as well as a bunch of other problems.

Of course the owners played all this for laughs, supported by punters who know no better including, IIRC, yourself.

Do you have any evidence of this?
I don't remember it in the reporting at the time.

I'm not a fan of the restaurant, at all I just never before now heard of anyone getting sick.

Fûck me the boom is most definitely back!! €100 for grub for 2 good value? You’d fill the fridge for a week out of that!!

Been dying to try cafe paradiso for so long. Will deffo have to try it soon next year. Will have to be a treat though.

Dying to try glass curtain too. It looks fab.

Ate in river lee last night, food is only alright there but the setting there is really nice. The terrace area is very nice and the staff are lovely

Not food related per se, but what do ye think is the nicest coffee shop in the city? Where you can sit in and relax. somewhere cosy with a good brew?

Soma, Three Fools or Filter for me. Three Fools probably not quite as comfy as the other two but the coffee is great and the staff are sound. Have spent many an hour in Soma and Filter though.

If you manage to get the window seat or the nook at the back of the Cork Coffee Roasters shop on French Church St, it is very cosy but the coffee isn't a patch on the first three IMO.

Coffee Roasters have great locations but the staff put me off. Never any bit of craic and can be quite rude especially Paul St. Three Fools and Soma are my go to places.

With regards to coffee Soma, filtr and alchemy are my 3 picks. Only downside to alchemy is that their takeaway coffee cups are tiny! Nectar isn't a bad old spot either

Heading to cornstore with a group tomo night, haven't been in years so looking forward to it

Not at all. It's a fine dining restaurant elevating vegetarian food to a level that is recognised nationally as being excellent.

Went to Sage in Midleton tonight.
Been wanting to try it for a while and it didn’t disappoint. Very tasty.
Quiet in there, which was surprising, given it’s reputation and being close to Christmas. But it was nice and will definitely go back sometime.
